<baude> hey walters or others here, iirc you are real savy with efi uefi etc? do i remember correctly?
<baude> when i had to work in windows, i added a nvm and installed windows on it ... work laptop, fedora on the other nvm. windows took over ofc. now, i took the windows nvm out, and i cannot get grub to come up much less boot fedora
<baude> in fact, i still get a windows boot manager that comes up and whines about not finding config ... i have a great understand of grub2 old school, but this gpt and uefi stuff has me turning around in circles ... have a minute to talk me through it ?
<walters> baude: (this may be a better generic topic for #fedora-devel ?) https://opensource.com/article/19/5/dual-booting-windows-linux-uefi is relevant here; I'm not an expert in what Windows does but I suspect the problem here is that Windows took over the ESP on your first drive?)
<baude> what is esp
<baude> efi system partition
<baude> i agree
<baude> mbr == so much easier
<baude> yeah i have read alot of this but very little describes undoing things ;)
<walters> As to how to fix your current setup...mmm...it's messy and depends on what specific fedora variant you're using
<baude> f38 straight
<baude> ok, one hint the article gives is that the esp should prolly be mounted to Linux when i try to redo things
<travier[m]> baude: I'd look at the order of the boot entries in your EFI firmware
<baude> how
<baude> os-prober ?
<baude> or bootmger
<travier[m]> directly in the firmware interface
<travier[m]> but you're saying that you still get a windows bootloader so I'm afraid that it overrode your grub installation
<baude> yeah

<baude> dustymabe: walters who is the resident kola expert?
spresti has joined #fedora-coreos
<baude> i am currently trying to get cosa to work properly on an apple silicon mac bare-metal (so to speak) and the kola qemu is barfing ....
<walters> No one and everyone, probably best to just ask the q
<baude> nod
<baude> ok, first, where is the kola qemuexec command line created?
<walters> Most of the core logic is in qemu.go
<baude> in talking with folks like sergio lopez, we have a theory that the problem may be an incorrect assumptionm on the part of the cpu
<walters> I think you mean the qemu commandline, not the kola qemuexec commandline right?
<baude> it does not look like that can be overriden in the command line
<walters> You can pass arbitrary arguments to qemu in case it helps testing, just cosa run -- --some-qemu-arg
<baude> walters: i am sittign in a cosa shell, so are you saying i do that before entering the shell ?
<walters> no, on the cosa you run inside the shell
<baude> ty
<walters> I guess in retrospect it is confusing to have both cosa shell which is about the outer environment and cosa run
<walters> (and kola run)
<baude> well i get it, im just not wholly understanding the kola qemuexec and qemu pieces and how they jive, i will though
<baude> walters: so like so ? cosa build -- -cpu=cortex-a57
<walters> it's the actual build that's failing?
<dustymabe> sorry - in a meeting - can look later
<walters> in that case no, you'll have to hack up baseQemuArgs
<baude> with:
<baude> [baude@fedora fcos]$ cat tmp/build.qemu/runvm-console.txt
<baude> SynSchyrnoncohusr oExncoeus Exc 0exp40t0i7Eon64 0a2t 0x6F697470
<spresti> test
<spresti> Sorry all, wanted to see if I got my nick registered (ignore me)
<baude> walters: seems like the issue is auto-cpus
<baude> going to find where kola lives and look at the code
<dustymabe> baude: I think you've got this to work at least once in the past: https://github.com/coreos/coreos-assembler/issues/3443
<baude> it works periodically, but the removal of auto-cpus seems to make it work every time (when run the kola command manually)
