<joe9>
i was able to resurrect dahdi and asterisk ports from 3.5 onto 3.7. They were in contrib then. Not sure if there might be any interest in putting them back in contrib again.

<tim> not from my side, sorry
<farkuhar>
joe9: As Tim explained, to put them back in contrib requires one of the contrib maintainers to take responsibility for them. They were dropped from 3.5 because none of the contrib maintainers volunteered to take them on.
<joe9>
Can I be a contrib maintainer?
<farkuhar>
joe9: You can maintain those ports yourself, and publish your repo on the portsdb. After maintaining an individual repo for a while, you can apply to be a contrib maintainer.

<tim> like farkuhar said, and I explained the process to you already :) If you mean it, then some time won't be an issue
<farkuhar>
After 3.7 came out, we lost the contrib maintainer who had given us pam_xdg. Although pam_xdg was soon dropped from contrib, references to it still remained in the CRUX 3.7 Handbook. Revising the handbook for CRUX 3.8 finally cleaned up those outdated references.
<farkuhar>
Contrib ports that serve a smaller niche, like dahdi and asterisk, are unlikely to merit any mention in the distro documentation, but if joe9 (as a future contrib maintainer) commits a port with wider appeal, then the possibility that he leaves the project between CRUX releases should be considered, lest a newly-inserted paragraph in the handbook lose its relevance.
