The forums used to hold the images but I have not seen them recently. Maybe my research skills are lacking...
<dablitz>
now here is a dumb question I am pluggin in my ai-64 to my windows pc via type-c. power light and no other activity. how can I cannot via serial uart. like I said I am very new to this. I have had many raspberry pi's but the ai-64 is very new to me
<set_>
Oh. Okay, you will need a USB to TTL 3.3v adapter and then use the smaller ports, three pin, on the AI-64 to connect to u-boot (I think).
<dablitz>
etcher is now writing sd card
<set_>
I have done this before today but it has been a while.
<set_>
Yea!
<set_>
Etcher works.
<set_>
See the two small, three pin ports connectors?
<dablitz>
yes
brook has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<set_>
I think the right one is the u-boot or boot log connection and by right one, I mean while looking across the board not right at it.
<set_>
If looking right at the board, it is the left connection.
<set_>
I am not sure what info. you need to gather from the boot log but I hope you can connect.
<set_>
No, you do not need a serial debug cable for the board.
<set_>
It should just work.
<set_>
I will go to the link to look.
<set_>
You may need a JST type connector and not those three pin types.
<set_>
See how the pins are extrememly small. That DTECH cable will not work unless you have the adapter cable to handle the JST connection.
<dablitz>
this cannot be done via the type-c port then. I have to connect to the uart0 port
<set_>
No.
<set_>
You can do it.
<set_>
Just put your sd card in the carriage and start your board. Sign in via PuTTY w/ debian as the username and tmppwd as the passwd.
<set_>
Use, Type-C to USB 3.0 for the connection.
<dablitz>
that is what I am trying to do. like I said it does nothing at all. just the power led. I cannot even ping 192.168.7.2
<set_>
I always wondered if Type-C to Type-C would work too.
<set_>
dablitz: Did you install the new image yet?
<dablitz>
I have the image on the sd card. and the sdcard is in the carriage. and then I connect to my pc via the type-c and ..... nothing happens at all. no activity ligts accept the power indicator led
<set_>
Type-C from the AI-64 to the Type 3.0 to Host?
<dablitz>
yes
<set_>
Okay.
<set_>
Now, under PuTTY try debian@beaglebone.local
<set_>
Or...if you use Linux, try ssh debian@beaglebone.local
<set_>
ssh via a Debian WSL2 instance too!
<dablitz>
"unable to open beaglebone.local. host does not exist"
<set_>
Do you have an Ethernet cable attached?
<dablitz>
no
<dablitz>
but I can
<set_>
Oh.
<set_>
Try it please.
<dablitz>
same message
<set_>
Please press the reset button the target and wait about a minute.
<set_>
I just used the image on mine. Maybe it is the SD Card?
<set_>
Have you a SD Card w/ class 10 and over 16 GB?
<dablitz>
kingston class 10 64gig
<set_>
I have a SD Card w/ 128 GB on it. It is a class 10 type from SanDisk.
<set_>
Okay.
<set_>
I have no kingston cards here. I cannot test those.
<set_>
What version PuTTY are you using?
<set_>
Are you on Win 11?
<dablitz>
yes win 11 and putty release 0.75 Build platform: 64-bit x86 Windows
<set_>
PuTTY v0.76 is the one I am using w/ Win 11.
<set_>
Try to update your PuTTY version.
<set_>
I know that sounds odd.
<set_>
I had to update my PuTTY version before today.
<set_>
dablitz: Do you have WSL2 installed?
<dablitz>
checking
<set_>
Okay. If you have a debian distro installed via WSL2, just ssh debian@beaglebone.local and if not, just update PuTTY.
<set_>
I have connected both ways.
<dablitz>
yes. I have windows subsystem ubuntu installed. I have tried ssh via putty and via powershell, and via ubuntu wsl2 and the host is not found at all.
<set_>
It is still a new board w/ a ton of development going into it.
<set_>
So, I am guessing that people are making an Official image at some point.
<set_>
I will update PuTTY too.
<dablitz>
i know that is why I bought 3 of them. I do alot with gnuradio and sdr's as I am a ham operator, and wanted to try this out
<set_>
Nice!
<set_>
Please hold.

<set_>
Okay. So, 0.78 PuTTY works for me.
<dablitz>
installing gnuradio now. this is going to be so much fun
<set_>
Oh!
<set_>
Nice.
<set_>
So, it works?
<set_>
uname -a && cat /etc/dogtag
<dablitz>
yes it does.
<set_>
Please post those commands as output.
<set_>
Nice
<dablitz>
one sec, after the build-dep has finished
<set_>
If you need additional help, the forums are a good place too.
<set_>
Oh...no issue.
<set_>
And dually noted. USB-C to USB-C works too!
<dablitz>
if I can get this to work right with GNU radio, I will post my dev. I have an external 100000mAh external battery pack with USB-C combined with the beaglebone ai-64 and I want to go test some long range LoRaWan signals
<set_>
nice. Hey...
<set_>
Also, you may need a fan.
<set_>
It gets pretty warm.

<set_>
Boo about the black screen.
<set_>
Maybe you need to add: sudo apt install xfce4
<set_>
You have a minimal image w/out OS.
<set_>
It is basically a server so far.

dablitz: use that apt command to get an OS or use another OS. They have GUIs like gnome and others but are heavier.
<set_>
slim is a way to get GUI ideas too. I have not used their 64-bit set up yet.
