Okay. I have fulfilled the prospect of me, myself, and I being interested. done and final. But, let us see what actually takes place. Geaux BBB!

Hi guys! quick question. Booting a BBBlack with a touch screen connected to it i see the Linux logo on the top left corner. I really like it, but we are trying to deliver this as a commercial product to a customer and we would like to substitute the Linux logo with out company logo. Where to i need to touch to modify this?

I need to make an external power button in the BB-AI. in the BBBlack i was connecting a push button to P9.9 and GND. This does not seem to work in BB-AI. Is there an equivalent ?
<zmatt>
nmingotti: regarding your earlier question: I don't exclude the possibility it can be disabled using kernel parameters, or otherwise you can definitely get rid of it using kernel config. iirc we actually just disabled support for graphical console entirely, so it screen remains blank until the gui application starts
<nmingotti>
hi zmatt, in BB-AI i don't see the logo. If i am amble to solve the last question i will run with BB-AI so my previous question becomes not so important
<zmatt>
pulling P9.09 to ground is still equivalent to pushing the power button... so if it doesn't have the desired functionality, that's probably a software configuration or driver issue
<nmingotti>
P9.09 -- GND. works to shut down the BB-AI
<nmingotti>
but, not to turn it on, one led turns one for about 2 seconds then it all shuts down
<zmatt>
uhh, that sounds bad
<zmatt>
so it's turning on the bbai just fine, but something is going horribly wrong during the power-on sequence
<nmingotti>
this is quite a serious issue, are you able to replicate it on your machine ?
<zmatt>
I'd need to dust off my bbai, and probably flash something more recent onto it... I think it's still running whatever it came shipped with
<zmatt>
I guess I can just try with whatever is on it right now
<nmingotti>
better than nothing ;)
<nmingotti>
to me also pressing the power button gives the same outcome
<zmatt>
P9.09 and the power button connect to the same net
<nmingotti>
ok
<nmingotti>
i disconnected all my electronics from the BB-AI and tested again => still does not boot => it is on the machine
<zmatt>
it seems this system doesn't recognize the power button (short-press) as a powerdown event, but that's probably just because it's an ancient system (debian stretch, kernel 4.14.108-ti-r113) or maybe I messed up some configuration
<zmatt>
but after perform a software powerdown, I can turn it back on using the power button just fine
<zmatt>
*performing
<nmingotti>
i see, in your older system you see the opposite of my problem
<zmatt>
I guess, though software ignoring a powerdown request seems much more benign than the system failing to power on
<nmingotti>
my config is : Linux BB-AI-1 4.19.94-ti-r70 --- BeagleBoard.org Debian Buster IoT Image 2021-10-01
<zmatt>
ok, I just checked with evtest: the power button is generating a KEY_POWER event, so it's just a system configuration issue
<zmatt>
ew, is that an uppercase hostname? :P
<zmatt>
no wonder the system refuses to power on sometimes ;-)
<nmingotti>
dah, i configured during the winter holiday ;) let me change it
<zmatt>
just to confirm, you're pressing the power button briefly, not holding it down?
<nmingotti>
just retried, i quick touch to the power button doesn't to it
<zmatt>
oh, turns out default long-press time is 12 seconds anyway (configurable 6-12 seconds in 2s steps) so it's not something you'd trigger by accident
<nmingotti>
let me try it: 12 seconds should turn it on
<zmatt>
no. long press turns it off unconditionally
<nmingotti>
wait wait, another minut
johanhenselmans has joined #beagle
<zmatt>
2 seconds is a weird amount of time too, I think by then it's already well into u-boot
<zmatt>
but I'm not 100% sure about that
<nmingotti>
mine is a lot more strange, i am trying to get the rule
<zmatt>
now that I think of it, I vaguely recall having had issues powering it back on when it had overheated, but it's been a long time so I don't know if I'm remembering correctly
<nmingotti>
nono, it can't be overheating i have a fan
<zmatt>
wait, you're holding it this entire time? don't do that
vagrantc has joined #beagle
<zmatt>
although, if long-press fixes the problem then that suggest that the system (u-boot or kernel) has performed some kind of pmic configuration that causes subsequent boot to fail
<nmingotti>
yes, i need to keep it down 15 seconds
<nmingotti>
if i release before that boot fails
<zmatt>
and the long-press probably resets things back to defaults
<nmingotti>
i see
<zmatt>
presumably my old system does not perform this same configuration
<zmatt>
this still seems weird though, if this is true it ought to have been noticed sooner
<nmingotti>
yes, maybe they just unplug the beast to turn it off ;P
<nmingotti>
do you have any idea if we can try to fix this ourself, i don't know where to toggle honestly
<zmatt>
no idea, but this sounds like it does need to be diagnosed and fixed. but I gotto go right now
<hnv>
I like that article about smart-questions... I think is important

what do you reccomend for the power button problem ? Should i write to the forum ? Mail anybody ? it is a very important thing to fix, for me for sure, i think also for other people trying the BB-AI
