<rfs613>
with Kees' patches applied, it works for me (tested on 32-bit machine).
<rfs613>
without the patch (eg. missing kzalloc call) it crashes similar to the error you reported.
<rfs613>
so I'm wondering what's different about our setups?
<geertu>
rfs613: pong
<geertu>
rfs613: I think I was unclear, the error I posted is without Kees' patch
<rfs613>
geertu: oh okay, that makes much more sense
<geertu>
I wanted to point out what happens when you boot on real hardware, as Kees just did static checking
<rfs613>
right, I understand now. This whole minor change has been a huge pain...
<geertu>
Yeah, I'm also surprised why this only pops up now, as the wrong merge was done on Dec 13
<rfs613>
I looked at the -stable tree after merge, but I should have checked -next I guess. There's also different version of the fix on -stable, to keep things extra confusing.

hmm, anybody else having errors regarding attestation when using "b4 am"?
<rfs613>
AttributeError: module 'patatt' has no attribute 'get_config_from_git'. Did you mean: '_attestors'?
<rfs613>
ah, got it, I was missing the git submodule for patatt.

<ukleinek>
broonie: so assuming we still want to get my series into the next merge-window, the stable branch should be based on gregkh's pick
<broonie>
What stable branch sorry?
<ukleinek>
broonie: the stable branch that we will need to change struct spi_driver::remove
<broonie>
I don't know what Greg's backporting or why but it shouldn't affect mainline.
<broonie>
Oh, this isn't stable.
<ukleinek>
stable branch as in a tag that can be merged into subsystem trees
<broonie>
Well, if Greg sends me a pull request... otherwise this'll have to wait until next release.
<javierm>
ukleinek: I believe those are called immutable branches usually
<broonie>
Yes, less confusing (especially for Greg given that he maintains stable).
<ukleinek>
javierm: yes
<ukleinek>
broonie: assuming the patch hits before -rc2, the immutable branch (or tag?) can be based on -rc2
<broonie>
ukleinek: Hopefully something like that isn't getting sent as a fix?
Tokamak has joined #armlinux
<geertu>
<sarcastic>Probably it's already on its way to -stable?</sarcastic>
<ukleinek>
broonie: gregkh took "staging: fbtft: Fix error path in fbtft_driver_module_init()" into staging-linus and wrote: "The patch will hopefully also be merged in Linus's tree for the next -rc kernel release.".
* ukleinek
was also surprised, given this is broken since 4.0-rc1
