ukleinek: aliases don't work in overlays
<geertu>
(well, not in dynamic overlays)

cmarinas: just remembered something regarding the unwind data discussion we had earlier this week:
<ardb>
it is also about being able to runtime patch away shadow call stack accesses and use PAC instead if the h/w supports it
<ardb>
that is still something we'd like to have on android GKI

geertu: hello! Anything wrong with the Renesas series cover letter? I just received it three times [with more people CCed] :-)
<geertu>
mraynal: Sorry for the noise. I sent out 3 patch series without noticing I still had the cover letter for your series in my working dir, so it was mailed out, too :-(
adelaunay has joined #armlinux
<mraynal>
geertu: haha no worries, I just wanted you to know =)
<cmarinas>
ardb: was this the "use unwind data on GCC for shadow call stack" thread?
elastic_1 has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<ardb>
cmarinas: yes
<ardb>
i think
<ardb>
yes that's the one
<cmarinas>
ardb: I guess for Android it doesn't make much difference since the series is specific to gcc, not clang
<rfs613>
mraynal: so you managed to get the rz/n1 booting from mainline? or am I misreading...
<ardb>
cmarinas: it was not intended to be specific to GCC
<ardb>
and nick has fixed the unwind data generate in the meantime so we can accurately track where the PACIASP/AUTIASP instructions are in the image
<ardb>
on clang as well

<cmarinas>
ardb: ok, it now makes sense. I'll have to read the series more detail but most likely that's for 5.18
<ardb>
cmarinas: yeah - the intent was really to elicit discussion, which did not really happen
<mraynal>
rfs613: yes!
<rfs613>
mraynal: fantastic! it will be nice to (eventually) not have to deal with 100 patches ;-)
<mraynal>
rfs613: of course that's a very light support, most of these patches need to be adapted and merged upsream in order for this soc to be fully featured
<geertu>
mraynal: exactly.
<geertu>
E.g. we've had an upstream pinctrl driver for years, but it's not enabled, as the upstream DTS has no pin control support.
<mraynal>
geertu: it's used for the UART no?
<mraynal>
I'm also using it for the NAND controller \o/
<geertu>
mraynal: uart0 relies on bootloader pinctrl setup
<geertu>
mraynal: good, looking forward to real use

geertu, mraynal: great, I know who to ask when I have problems with pinctrl ;-)
<ukleinek>
geertu: in my case the bootloader applies the overlay, so it's not dynamic. (Is it?)
<ukleinek>
current workaround is to write: ecu-comp-cap0 = "/soc/timer@40003000/comp-cap";
<ukleinek>
geertu: that works fine (apart from being ugly)
elastic_dog has joined #armlinux
<geertu>
ukleinek: no, pre-boot overlays are not dynamic
<Esmil>
arnd: I've updated the the for-soc tag so it's now signed and has a description. However Stephen Boyd just added his ack to 3 of the patches. Should I add those and send a new pull request?
<arnd>
Esmil: yes, I think redoing the pull request here would be good. We normally don't do it for an extra Ack, but in this case it's important enough to have his ack
