arnd: have you been following the at25 patch? I'm a bit puzzled why Greg has queued the my older version for 5.15, when there's a newer series from Andy...
<arnd>
rfs613: no, I have not followed, but I think gregkh works through his backlog from oldest to newest, so he may have missed the new version if that wasn't an obvious replacement with the same subject and author
<arnd>
would it make sense to send him a follow-up patch that updates it to Andy's version?
<rfs613>
I'll reply saying that he should prefer Andy's version (at least the fixes, if not the whole thing).
<arnd>
rfs613: well, he won't replace the verision that he has already merged
<arnd>
the options are either revert your patches and apply the other one, or add a patch on top to bring it to the new version
<rfs613>
arnd: my patch is in his queue-5.15 which suggests it's not yet final.
<arnd>
ah, it's for stable, not for char-misc/next?
<arnd>
if it's only in stable-rc but not in stable yet, then he can drop the patch and pick the other one
<broonie>
rfs613: If it's for stable follow up and tell him what's going on.
<rfs613>
yep. char-misc/next has Andy's version, which conflicted with my patch.
<arnd>
ok, that should be easy then, just tell him the commit IDs of the two mainline patches and which one he should take in the end
<arnd>
is your version in mainline already then?
<rfs613>
no I don't think so
* rfs613
checks
<rfs613>
oh, yes it is in mainline
<rfs613>
merged on Dec 3rd
<rfs613>
ugh, how does something so simple become such a mess!

<arnd>
rfs613: in this case, just ask gregkh to remove the patch and wait for the better fix to make it into mainline. Since it's already in his char-misc tree, you can point him to the commit already
<rfs613>
arnd: thanks, I sent a note already, and linux-next seems to have it correctly (my patch replaced with Andy's)
<rfs613>
(and you were in the cc: list)
<rfs613>
as usual I got myself a bit confused, my patch is in the stable series, not mainline. So greg can just swap 'em.
