[Discord] <qrsamuel> Continuing this. I have found out that spacemit provides universal bianbu images (based on Ubuntu) that are compatible with any board using the spacemit k1. I used a link from the bannapi f3 wiki however the images specifiy in their name that they are for the k1 and not the bannanapi f3 specifically. I just wrote one to my SD card and it booted up fine, wifi, bt, GPU acceleration <clipped message>
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <qrsamuel> etc work fine. Same result as all of the images I have tested from other k1 boards except for armbian for the bpif3. Is it possible something is wrong on armbians end? Are you utilising a piece of hardware or a specific setting not present/incompatible with other k1 boards? Would it be possible for a universal image to be built like what spacemit offers? Also, I might have found <clipped message>
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <qrsamuel> a way to run debian using a different image that someone built on GitHub for the bpif3. I will report back whether or not it works.

[Discord] <qrsamuel> Not seeking an answer specifically from you Igor. Sorry for the ping, it just seemed like the appropriate comment to continue from.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <qrsamuel> Ok. Update on that debian image. Same result as the armbian images. I tested both Ubuntu and debian variants of armbian, same result as far as I am aware. Boots to blank but powered on screen. It's doing something, perhaps just no display out as I do have to hold the power button to shut it off. The only differences I can think of between the armbian images and that debian image <clipped message>
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <qrsamuel> compared to the other (working) images I have tested are that they are cli only images while the working ones all came with gnome installed (bianbu (Ubuntu) for musebook/bianbu (Ubuntu) for milk v Jupiter/Ubuntu for milk v Jupiter/bianbu for all k1 boards (link to spacemit download from bannapi wiki)

[Discord] <qrsamuel> Please forgive any typos I'm on my phone
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> this would be far better to put on forums / its larger audience
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> i don't deal with this HW, so have very little clue
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> chat is for simple things
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <qrsamuel> Yeah good idea. I'll post it soon. I didn't think i would go this far with it but I really want debian 😅
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> build framework will always trhow you debian / or buntu
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> but to keep devices operational, someone needs to maintain a specific one
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <qrsamuel> I'll start learning how to use the build framework. I've never used it, always relied on prebuilt images. If I can get an image with gnome installed built with a bit of luck it might boot. I'm just pulling at strings though.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> framework is able to assemble Gnome desktop for x86 and maintained ... fine. Hard part is low level stuff for specific hw
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> also this bananapi f3 is not well done yet. it boots, upgrade, install works, ... i haven't tested much
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <qrsamuel> Yeah, I think armbian could be missing 3d acceleration for the bannanapi too, I might have read that somewhere. But it would be nice to have debian even just booting properly. In the end Ill probably just have to play the waiting game. As it stands (for now) I can't maintain a device myself, I don't have the knowledge.

[Discord] <c0rnelius77> 3d acceleration is not gonna work with debian/ubuntu any time soon. https://bianbu-linux.spacemit.com/en/ all that is specifically compiled to work on the HW.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <qrsamuel> Yep. They have prebuilt images here ( http://archive.spacemit.com/image/k1/version/bianbu/ ) too. They're great images my only problem is I don't like Ubuntu. Just a personal thing. (I moved away when snap became a thing. It's not a problem in itself but it made me very mad when I tried to install Firefox using apt but it installed a snap package instead, and the places where Fir <clipped message>
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <qrsamuel> efox stores application data were different with snap... it was just very annoying. + now they aren't building Firefox apt packages for new architectures since they want to force the user base onto snap - at least with Firefox... bruh). I'm not sure if 3d acceleration is working on Bianbu/Ubuntu (the Ubuntu build i was using uses the Bianbu repositories too) either, I didn't chec <clipped message>

[Discord] <qrsamuel> I just saw someone on a forum mention that while using an Armbian build X was unusably slow.

[Discord] <qrsamuel> Ok what I think is 3d acceleration (directing rendering: yes - from command glxinfo) is enabled. It just doesn't do a very good job... A hair under 40fps in glxgears. Hopefully it's due to the drivers needing optimisation and not because the gpu is a flying turd.

[Discord] <igorpec> go to forums like suggested. We don't support this hardware anyway. not yet. we just made initial bring up
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> more right people will see this and your findings will be better indexed (with tag for this board) https://forum.armbian.com/tags/bananapif3/
<voker57>
I upgraded my armbian system and it doesn't properly boot now (screen goes black after tow-boot does it job). Any idea what could be wrong or how to see some verbose log? I can still boot another armbian from SD-card on this system.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> voker57: each hardware variant has its own armbian. nobody knows what you you running. I suspect pinebook pro ... check forums. There are some (unresolved) problems.
