Hey, I'm currently trying to build an armbian image for the radxa-e25 with a newer uboot version than it defaults to (2017.09). For that, I figured that I'd just have to edit config/boards/radxa-e25.csc to contain something like BOOTBRANCH='branch:next-dev-v2024.03'. That however has no effect on the build
<Hypfer>
Do I need to invalidate some caches or something like that? I'd expect there to be at least an error if that branch doesn't exit but the build process just moves on with the old 2017.09
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <Werner> You can try ARTIFACT_IGNORE_CACHE=yes
<Hypfer>
changing the BOOTBRANCH in the rk35xx.conf the radxa e25 inherits does in fact now build the u-boot of that branch (which still turns out to be version 2017.09, though probably with other commits)
<Hypfer>
Oh well I created a XY problem here. Sorry about that. The reason why I want to compile u-boot in the first place is that /proc/cpuinfo lacks the serial number of the SoC
<Hypfer>
which I _assumed_ to be provided by u-boot to the kernel

Wait I think I might've confused myself. With that build with next-dev-v2024.03, I have the cpu serial in /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/serial-number. But do I also have that with the previous build?
<Hypfer>
Nope. So it actually was necessary to switch to a newer u-boot version

Another question: Is there a way to remove the armbian custom stuff (e.g. unattended-upgrades, cronjobs and whatnot) to leave a mostly vanilla base OS?

oh it's actually all part of an apt package apparently "armbian-bsp-cli-radxa-e25-current"

[Discord] <immaculate_gull_03722> hey i feel like a total dingus over this but i've been using the armbian/build tool - i just deleted my cache/sources/linux-kernel-worktree/VERSION folder because i wanted it to recompile the kernel from scratch...but now it seems like the build is just unpacking prebuilt debs every time? how do i get it to pull kernel sources and build from the start?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <immaculate_gull_03722> need the kernel worktree to build some kmods against. i am running low on space and hitting enter to push through the warning, so maybe it's using kernel debs because it thinks i don't have enough space for the kernel tree?
<DC-IRC>
[Matrix] <werner:matrix.armbian.com> build framework checks by default for pre-generated artifacts to speed up things. You can use ARTIFACT_IGNORE_CACHE=yes to omit this
