<DC-IRC> [Discord] <microlinux> 5v is okay for very low power, low I/O boards
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <microlinux> Like rk3566..
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <microlinux> Everything beyond that makes very little sense to use anything but 12v.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <microlinux> But we have to deal with the people that demands type C practicality and PD type C is a decent compromise.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <zeeto9> Hasnt radxa boards for rock5 series had issues with their type c PD? Maybe it wasn’t a PD issue, but out of all the things I recall people bringing up, something related to power seemed to be near the top. Maybe it was that it was fairly dirty power signal?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> this is the issue I've talked about 100x + over the last 6-7 years
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> type C power delivery does not work with the linux kernel, the port controller resets on boot
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> to make it not reset is a wicked hack
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> and not incredibly stable
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> also, during voltage jumps (say 5 to 12, etc), the maximum current load is too small to run the SBC, and you get a POR
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> PD was never intedned to run a large device that doesn't have a battery
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <zeeto9> Yea, those or things I remember seeing. Which I feel like is a bummer, because radxa seems fairly good in many other ways.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> they followed the Rockchip SDK
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <zeeto9> Not that it would prevent for buying one. The only reason I don’t own one is because they were out of stock when I got more sbcs a month ago. Not trying to throw stones
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> like FreindlyElec did on the M4, and like Firefly and LC did on the Renegade Elite
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> yeah if you give up the idea of running the board via a hub or display and just run 12V to the type C connector via a barrel jack adapter it is perfect
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <zeeto9> That’s what I intended to do. Keep it simple, at least at first
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> for the Renegade Elite I run it with PoE
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> the M4 only uses 5V anyway, so a dumb 5V charger works well
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> use a smart one though, and it boot loops 😄

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> cool
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <h2o3046> first boot does not run resize filesystem. What to do to fix it?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> first boot resize automatically the partition
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> sudo systemctl enable armbian-resize-filesystem
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <h2o3046> [Debian] Debian 12 (Bookworm) Gnome MESA / VPU stable 6.1.75 rolling release. The system did not fix itself automatically. There was no space left on the disk.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> I have personally tried this and it is done automatically, I don't know why you are experiencing this problem
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <h2o3046> What I did was fix it manually from another installation with gnome-disks. But it seems to me that the system is unstable. Because the mouse drags with difficulty.

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <zeeto9> This is a great point. I never even thought about it that it’s almost exclusive to devices with batteries. (Honestly never thought much about many of these standards until I was forced to figure out why something isn’t working as expected)
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <zeeto9> Another issue I have with usb type c, in general, not specific to power or sbc, is that the standard is so large and varied, that it is a legitimate chore to figure out what exactly the type c cable requires to have to support it. Add to the fact that no device maker likes to detail anything about their usb type c cords spec and what they support.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <zeeto9> Power? Maybe? High speed, dual high speed? Maybe. Display port? Maybe. ANY form of data transfer? Maybe.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <zeeto9> This isn’t all the specs fault, but it leads to confusion.

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <zeeto9> Apple comes to mind. Cheap *%@# not including a full speed type c cable in the box requiring an additional purchase to fully utilize its speeds.
