<DC-IRC> [Discord] <catloaf0> On my orange pi 5 mainline doesn't have a text console but loads wayland properly
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> I cannot even boot current kernel from sdcard with an emmc attached
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> it boots kernel from sd then mounts rootfs from emmc
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <lanefu> Yeah that just sounds like crappy uboot config
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> yep, maybe I'm dong something wrong, but I really just switched BRANCH in config file
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> with edge it works great
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <catloaf0> Is the oibaf ppa just mainline mesa thats newer than what ubuntu ships? Like will debian trixie mesa work because I dont like ubuntu.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <catloaf0> Well, gnome runs but its using software rendering
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <catloaf0> how do I figure out why its selecting software rendering?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <catloaf0> it was missing /usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/panthor_dri.so but adding that file from the ubuntu image did not fix the software rendering
DC-IRC has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
DC-IRC has joined #armbian-rockchip
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <.manofthesea> I would guess it's detecting the label on the emmc first
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <.manofthesea> Since mounting root is done by the initrd, not u boot
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <mecoblock> can’t you just built mesa dev on your own? You don’t need to use prebuilt binaries
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <amazingfate> This should because of mixing vendor uboot in emmc and mainline uboot in SD card. I was too lazy to remove my emmc module.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <xela19115> I installed Armbian Jammy rolling release kernel 6.1.43 on my Rock 5 ITX. I connected 4 SATA SSD drives to the board but the system simply doesn’t see the drives. I booted the board using the Radxa Bullseye image as well as the Armbian Trixie rolling release and they saw and mounted the drives without any issues.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <xela19115> What can I do to fix this?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> rock5 itx support is in incoming / staging. we only got one device / person doing few things ... better support coming soon. What abou Jammy from rolling ?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <xela19115> Got it, thanks. But... When running the rolling Trixie everything is good with SATA SSDs, but rolling Jammy is having issues.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> that is strange ... you have tested images with the same kernel? as you can see there are 5.10 and 6.1
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <xela19115> The same kernel, 6.1. The only 2 other difference is that Jammy is running Gnome and on Trixie, I installed KDE as my desktop environment. The second difference is Jammy installed, boot from SD card and the OS is on the NVMe. The Trixie is running straight from the SD card.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <xela19115> The same kernel, 6.1 for both, same trunk build. The only 2 other differences are that Jammy is running Gnome and on Trixie, I installed KDE as my desktop environment. The second difference is Jammy installed, booted from the SD card and the OS is on the NVMe. The Trixie is running straight from the SD card.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> well, there should be no difference on low level. regardless of user space or deskop. that's why its strange.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> they are both assembled fully automatic with same low level components
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> if you can, provide full logs on working and not working one, best on forums
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> Hi Guys! I noticed yday that my orangepi5-plus with an emmc installed is refusing to boot from sdcard when BRANCH=current
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> Strange part is that if emmc has an installation of the same RELEASE as sdcard, kernel will boot from sdcard but mount emmc ROOTFS
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> Anyone similar experience? I can't understand where I'm screwing up
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> There is no "current" for this board afaik. or better to say for rk3588 in general. vendor, legacy and edge only
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> ok, got that. -when choosing current, 6.6.31 is pulled, perhaps it's not in working state
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> Edge is very decent for my scenario, vendor borderline unusable as it won't even recognize and initialize pci-e
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> will try to port i2c and some overlays to edge, perhaps introducte the xunlong branch as an option
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> You shouldn't even be able to pull current since it is not defined...odd
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> I had a git reset --hard HEAD yday just to make sure I didn't mess up the tree
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> but will double check today, should I raise a ticket if current keeps getting pulled?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/88c749c46f7e6afcead37d2e12745c60d6f809bd/config/boards/orangepi5-plus.conf#L7 no idea how you managed to get current for the 5+ without modifications
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> seems defined in config/sources/families/include/rockchip64_common.inc
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> rk3588 has its own family
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> didn't modify it BOOT_SOC="rk3588"
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> KERNEL_TARGET="legacy,vendor,edge"
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> KERNEL_TEST_TARGET="vendor,edge"
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> FULL_DESKTOP="yes"
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> in config/sources/families/rockchip-rk3588.conf there's an include
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> source "${BASH_SOURCE%/*}/include/rockchip64_common.inc"
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Hm maybe if you use EXPERT it skips the targets check. Anyway there is no way current could boot an rk3588 atm
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> I used expert yday
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> will try setting it to no
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> thanks for the hint 😉
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> still pulling
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> I can get the kernel to boot, just it won't mount sdcqrd rootfs but emmc rootfs
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> quite reproducible
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <.manofthesea> I still suspect that the initrd is mounting the rootfs by label, and you have the same labels on the sdcard as on the emmc. If you boot into emmc rootfs, use gdisk to mangle the label, and then reboot
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> definitely worth a try
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <alexl83> still 6.6 is unstable at best - most of the times poweroff triggers a delayed reboot
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <lanefu> yeah def wouldn't bother.. need to follow the edge kernel and all the patches armbian applies for a usable experience...
