<joekhoobyar> on the Rock PI 4 C+, not that impressed with the "official" radxa ubuntu server image perf so far: iozone -a -s 4G -r 4k -w -e - sdcard: 20MB/s write, 21MB/s read, (rand read, write hasn't even finished yet - not sure I care at this point, gonna kill it) - ssd (usb3 w/ uas): 112MB/s write, 226MB/s read, 21MB/s rand read, 45MB/s rand write didn't realize they were running the 4.4.x kernel on this
<Armbian-Discord>
shit, too. 😦 fairly lame will start trying out an armbian build out tomorrow, it's a bit late for me
<Armbian-Discord>
<joekhoobyar> will need to put a fan or heatsink on this thing tomorrow too, jeez

<Tenkawa> Progressed my kernel a bit more
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> Linux r5 5.10.76-r5-rockchip-rk3588 #trunk SMP Sun Oct 30 11:23:08 EDT 2022 aarch64 GNU/Linux
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> about to start on 77
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> All hardware still looking good
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> great!
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> Yeah I need to fix one thing on netfilter still however for initial testing it isn't affecting operation
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> I would never run a vendor kernel on an RK3399
<Armbian-Discord>
<joekhoobyar> I wanted a baseline comparison
<Armbian-Discord>
<joekhoobyar> Noted that earlier
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> My scroll back willpower is limited. Baseline or no, RK vendor kernel is only worthy of disposal in the nearest bit bucket. 🙂
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> A point of contention between myself and Tenkawa, since he is super interested in the RK3588
<Armbian-Discord>
<joekhoobyar> “Scroll back willlpower”- love it, gonna use that
<Armbian-Discord>
<joekhoobyar> I am also super interested in the RK3588
<Armbian-Discord>
<joekhoobyar> Looks like I’ll be stuck with a shit kernel there for a while?
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Me too, but it's like a supercar running low grade diesel
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Lots of potential, but just a disappointing, stinky mess 😑
<Armbian-Discord>
<joekhoobyar> Looks like I committed about $900 to that mess-come-potential
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Well, hopefully the mainline RK guys are equally as interested in donating their time, I have a Rock 5 coming to go with the dev sample one.
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Of course, well, barrel jack to Type C connector is mandatory
<Armbian-Discord>
<joekhoobyar> That’s what I’ve been seeing in this thread.
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Yeah, I ran into this on the Libre Computer Renegade Elite 2 (3?) Years ago
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Same configuration for power
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Couldn't solve it in that time, got wind Radxa was going to do it, but even if they were going to listen to me it was too late in the dev cycle
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> I still have a major beef with the RK3588 in terms of cost, it's performance is way cool compared to other ARM devices we get to use, but compared to an x86...
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> I'm an embedded gadget guy, ARM lives in low power situations like controls, data acquisition, my file server, etc
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> more work
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> Linux r5 5.10.77-r5-rockchip-rk3588 #trunk SMP Sun Oct 30 13:31:51 EDT 2022 aarch64 GNU/Linux
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> oh nice.. whats the sata/nvme array bridge?
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> uh, the only one that exists
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> that's an interesting piece
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> its not working yet
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> oh
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> bummer
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> well, it probably does, but haven't got there yet
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> heheh
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> time to attempt 5.10.78 roll-forward
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> you passed that dwc3 troubles?
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> there was a lot of diff iirc
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> I didn't run into any
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> not dwc
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> I think there was 1 and it was a DEBUG trace
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> which wasn't needed if you were running a production kernel
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> I am still testing 2 variations
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> aha, ok
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> I want to make sure none of these changes takes out functionality
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tenkawa> I have found a fair amount of patched code already in from Radxa that I've had to stop it from reverting
<Armbian-Discord>
<NicoD> That looks pretty cool. I was thinking of buying a USB3 to 4 x SATA. To replace my old OPi+2. Too bad the HC4 doesn't have USB3. So I was thinking of using another SBC with USB3 and Gbit ethernet. And then I saw the R6S and am starting to think about something like that with 2.5Gbit ethernet to upgrade my home network. I've asked FE if I can review the R6S for them.
<Armbian-Discord>
<NicoD> But then again, why use old spinning rust and not invest in ssd's...
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> that's cool. You have a switch in mind?
<Armbian-Discord>
<NicoD> No. I'll probably first ask a friend who does network management is he's got any for cheap. They're all upgrading to 5 or 10Gbit.
