<vader-> im working with some blueiris bvr files which are basically h.264/h.265
<CounterPillow> the codec inside may be, but what's the container?
<vader-> it's just a wrapper i believe with meta data
<vader-> others have had luck with using ffmpeg to pull the video out of it

<frankplow> vader-: > which are basically h.264/h.265
<frankplow> vader-: What do you mean by this exactly? They are raw (i.e. no container) h.264/h.264 bitstreams? That is what -f h264 / -f h265 tries to decode them as (strictly speaking, Annex-B bistreams)

<frankplow> It doesn't look like anyone has implemented any specific support for BVR in FFmpeg

<milahu> hey. im having trouble with the loudnorm filter (audio volume normalization). usually my method works just fine (the last 100 times), but now i seem to have broken input files, which seem to cause a bug in loudnorm. sample audio files in https://github.com/milahu/ffmpeg-loudnorm-volume-glitches-bug
JavaBean has joined #ffmpeg
<milahu> the audio sample is from an audiobook, so the volume often changes between silent and loud. the quiet parts are when the narrator inhales. problem is, after normalization the quiet parts are much too loud

<MisterMinister> Greetings! Trying to probe UDP MC traffic, seems FFprobe gets stuck if there's no data trafic and just keeps listening ignoring timeout... Any advise please?

Blacker47 has quit [Quit: Life is short. Get a V.90 modem fast!]
<JEEB> rw_timeout - which is the overall I/O timeout option does not unfortunately work with UDP, but plain timeout definitely does. the only case in which FFmpeg gets stuck is when you have bytes coming in, but f.ex. there are no data packets in the MPEG-TS stream
ivanich has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]

<DeHackEd> ffprobe udp://ip:port?timeout=5M gives you a 5 second timeout (units in microseconds, so you need 5 million of them)
<JEEB> please prefer it as a separate option, not in the URL :)
<JEEB> ffprobe -timeout XYZ -i udp://ip:port
<DeHackEd> fair enough... just that I have a custom app that doesn't offer that option and uses the URL style instead...
<DeHackEd> so I'm used to that
<JEEB> yea, I just know that getting users used to protocol specific in-url options is bad
FlorianBad has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<JEEB> they got used enough to that with librtmp that many just decided that the internal rtmp implementation wouldn't work since it was based on options and not stuffing stuff into a url :P

<BenMcLean> I'd like to create an app to stream media over the Internet. I know Jellyfin exists but there are a few features I'd like which no other current app has. This is context for my question:
<BenMcLean> It is my understanding from reading online that ffmpeg can output HLS. I think, but am not certain, that this means the output from ffmpeg would need to be paired with an https server in order to produce an HLS stream.
<BenMcLean> My question is, has anyone actually done that? Made a web API where you can just request ffmpeg to start doing a stream for you based on the URL parameters?
<BenMcLean> I mean like, already done that so it's open source
<BenMcLean> Don't want to start trying to write it myself if it's already been done, you see.
<BenMcLean> I'm hampered by not knowing a lot of the relevant terminology when I search for information about this.
<BenMcLean> Would really appreciate any pointers towards how this sort of thing is done! I expect my application would also be open source.
<klaxa> >Made a web API where you can just request ffmpeg to start doing a stream for you based on the URL parameters?
<klaxa> what do you mean by that?
<klaxa> other than that, you correctly understood that you can use any http(s) server to server ffmpeg generated hls
<klaxa> *any http(s) server that can serve static files
<klaxa> *from a directory
