jaeger changed the topic of #crux-devel to: CRUX (https://crux.nu/) development channel | Logs: https://libera.irclog.whitequark.org/crux-devel/
<beerman> In March I will start adopting Danny ports while marking others unmaintained for a brief period before dropping (to not hurt anyones feelings)
<beerman> he promised me to get back into it in Februrary, instead he wastes his time on an electron port i have given up long ago because it takes me far too long to build it
SiFuh_ has joined #crux-devel
SiFuh has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<beerman> anyway.. kodi-gbm seems to work fine for me, i'll need some more time for kodi-wayland
<farkuhar> I emailed Danny a few weeks ago, offering to take over any contrib ports he didn't want. No reply so far. Interesting to learn that he's been working on an electron port all this time.
<beerman> _My_ electron port
<beerman> If I'd never done that i bet he would have never started fiddling with it in the first place
<beerman> I've had enough filling in for Danny, that's all I know for sure. We need to be realistic and see that he is not around anymore, right now.
<beerman> I've asked him to clean out out ports or do minor bumps himself a number of times but he cares about electron..
<beerman> Remembers me of his ceph port he offloaded into contrib before being away, that shit never ran in the first place
<beerman> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ let's just move forward
<beerman> And fwiw, the port worked fine, i gave up on it because it requires a git pull off the sources and that blew up my build time to over 48h and consumed a lot of energy in the process
<beerman> It's an extreme example of an high maintenance port, if he can build it he shall have fun with it, to me that's just stupid
<beerman> And the fact that he is ignoring you is not surprising. He has been doing that from the start where he went away and just occasionally answers my messages as well
<beerman> And we have been working closely together for over a year, make of that what you want
<beerman> CRUX should move on
<farkuhar> 48h build time and consuming a lot of energy, those are good reasons to abandon electron. Too bad that some projects decided to swap out a low-maintenance design for one that depends on electron (e.g., the midori browser)
<beerman> other projects don't need to bother with build time if they have access to something like jenkins
<beerman> darn it, libvisual-plugins (which is a runtime dependency for gst-plugins-base btw), may interfer with gtk2, i need to look at that a bit further tomorrow
<beerman> otoh, kodi-wayland seems to work fine updated as well for me.. tomorrow
