i guess it's time to return to FPGAs soon. someone just dropped me a FOMU last weekend
thardin has left #yosys [#yosys]
<
josuah>
ikskuh: they are very fun: can be programmed with dfu-util too, makes it easy
<
ikskuh>
yeah, i've seen that it tells me it's a DFU device
<
ikskuh>
but i feel a bit lost, how do i upload the bitstream when the DFU interface is on the FPGA?
<
Sarayan>
there must be a usb plug somewhere
<
xiretza[m]>
the fomu is basically ALL USB plug :D
<
xiretza[m]>
ikskuh: I think you just need to make sure you always flash a working DFU, or you have to fix it via SPI
<
ikskuh>
okay, that was my guess, but wanted to make sure before i do stupid things
<
xiretza[m]>
you'll probably be fine if you only use their toolchain, but if you want to use it freely I'd just solder an SPI flasher to it
<
ikskuh>
right. i guess i'll stick to their toolchain then
<
ikskuh>
also not sure what to do with it except for having a RISC-V cpu to play around with
<
xiretza[m]>
yeah, it doesn't exactly have great IO options :p
<
ikskuh>
i'm going on vacation and i noticed it's still plugged in my usb port, so it seems like i'm taking the FOMU to the netherlands
<
ikskuh>
kinda fun to have a tiny computer in the always-on-port

ikskuh: i grabbed an orangecrab
<
grmbl>
didn't do anything with it yet, but the orangecrab and the ulx3s make for more interesting projects imho
* qball
dug up an 4 year old encrusta (enclustra) pe1 board with an xu5 to play with.
<
ikskuh>
grmbl: i got a ECP5-EVN board, Mach-XO, Mach-XO2, Mach-XO3, and a DE-MAX10 :D
<
ikskuh>
i have plenty of stuff to play with, the FOMU was basically plugged into my laptop and someone said: "it's yours now, have fun"
<
qball>
I got boards, but little time.
<
ikskuh>
qball: exactly!
<
ikskuh>
but i got something even more important now: motivation!
<
qball>
also got a huge virtex ultrascale+
<
qball>
180mbyte bitfile.. or so
<
qball>
haveit for 3 years now, not even turned on
<
qball>
I do have tons of 7020 in use
<
ikskuh>
the other problem i have is that i have an aversion on PCB drawing
<
ikskuh>
no idea why
<
ikskuh>
i just … don't do it, even if i want to
<
grmbl>
encrusta :D
<
grmbl>
qball: how many LUTs ?
<
qball>
(sorry not their biggest fan).
<
grmbl>
no the biggest fan of what ? x*linx ?
<
qball>
the 206 gb vivado install also did not make me happy with xilinx :-/
<
ikskuh>
yosys is so smol
<
grmbl>
i deal with xilinx for a living
<
grmbl>
i am
_not_ happy either
<
grmbl>
and their non-vivado tools aren't good either, cf Vitis (bleeech) or Petalinux
<
qball>
vu9p by the looks of it.
<
qball>
hmm I see somebody damaged a pin header.. fun
<
qball>
luckely nothing serous.
<
grmbl>
are these the ~50k€ ones ?
<
qball>
no, not that bad
<
qball>
10k I think university price
