<wkawka> Hi, I have a strange situtation, I have config `NET_VENDOR_INTEL` enabled in my linux source (it is set in menuconfig both in source repo and in devshell), but on the machine it isn't enabled. It is present only when I add it to .cfg file, which is in SRC_URI in linux recipe. This config however, is not set in defconfig (there is a comment line
<wkawka> that it is not set). What else can affect the config here?

<JaMa> I mean the busybox-initrd was renamed to fix the parsing, what else do you need?
<rburton> hm we get busybox bbappend mismatches
<rburton> hm
<JaMa> bbappend? there is only _%.bbappend, but maybe you mean ./recipes-core/busybox/busybox-initrd_1.36.0.bb
<JaMa> if it still fails, you need to update oe-core instead

<rburton> ah zeddii merged just after our CI ran :)
<JaMa> then you need to update meta-virt, but it's already in master
<rburton> zeddii: ignore me
* JaMa has similar busybox case in meta-webos-ports and yes it's annoying :)

<Guest2022> mihai same issue with `DEPENDS = "p7zip-native"`
pidge has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<qschulz> Guest2022: in which task are you running 7zip?
<rburton> mihai: do you mean a disk image with a single partition, or a rootfs with a kernel in?
<rburton> wic is for constructing disk images, if you just want an ext4 or whatever then you don't need wic
<mihai> rburton, I mean a disk without a boot partition, and boot straight out of the rootfs
<rburton> sounds like a bare file system
<rburton> you don't _need_ to make a boot partition in your wic file
<Guest2022> qschulz what do you mean by which task? I have a recipe that the `SRC_URI` points to a 7zip file. The file is downloaded and bitbake runs `PATH="..." 7za x -y FILE` which returns command not found
<qschulz> Guest2022: then I believe you're just missing a host dependency
<rburton> Guest2022: is that a file that bitbake is decompressing for you, or does your recipe call 7za manually
<Guest2022> rburton bitbake is decompressing it
<qschulz> Guest2022: you're likely missing p7zip on your building machine
<rburton> ignore qschulz :)
<rburton> looks like we're missing detection for those files
<rburton> whats the extension?
<Guest2022> rburton extension is .7z
<rburton> workaround is do_unpack[depends] += "p7zip-native" in your recipe
<Guest2022> qschulz shouldn't bitbake download the host tools itself?
<rburton> yeah ignore qschulz :)
<rburton> the proper fix is to add another case to the big if block in base.bbclass where it looks at path.endswith('.lz4') and so on
<qschulz> rburton: I disagree. If we actively support decompressing .7z archives, then we should do something so that it works OOTB
<rburton> add two more lines for .7z and .7za
<rburton> qschulz: yes, that's what i just said to do
<rburton> Guest2022: if you can send a four line patch for base.bbclass then that would be great
<qschulz> we already have xz-utils, unzip and zstd installed on the host
<qschulz> ok, i'll ignore myself and religiously read what rburton just suggested :)
<qschulz> well, TIL :)
<Guest2022> rburton I will try the workaround first
<qschulz> i was convinced this was one of the usecases for HOSTTOOLS?
demirok has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<rburton> we only hosttools the decompressors that are needed for bootstrapping
<rburton> can't build gzip if you can't unpack gzip
<qschulz> aren't we missing some other native recipe dependencies for the other compress tools listed in bitbake/lib/bb/fetch2/__init__.py ?
Tyaku has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]

<qschulz> or unzip
<rburton> probably
<landgraf> qschulz: bzip is in hosttools

<qschulz> landgraf: I don't see it explicitly listed in debian/ubuntu and opensuse, but I guess another package brings it in
<landgraf> the list is much longer :)
Estrella has joined #yocto
<qschulz> I guess a missing HOSTTOOL should make bitbake fatally fail when building oe-core
<qschulz> so running the apt-get command with --no-install-recommends should help identify the packages we should add
<qschulz> but at the same time, since the command (without --no-install-recommends) works, why bother?
<qschulz> (for debian/ubuntu, I'm commenting the absence of bzip2 in the list of packages to install)
<qschulz> I guess this is up to michaelo to decide what makes sense here. I don't know

<JPEW> TRO[m]: You mean running kvm inside of qemu, or using kvm on the host to acclerate qemu?
<JaMa> LetoThe2nd: ah :)
<TRO[m]> kvm inside qemu - runqemu kvm nographic
<JPEW> Err, that's using kvm on your host to acclerate KVM, it doesn't enable KVM _inside_ of qemu
<TRO[m]> I have a host machine that has /dev/kvm - so it' s a metal ;) instance
<JPEW> accelerate qemu that is
<TRO[m]> ah ok
<JPEW> There won't be a /dev/kvm inside of qemu itself
<JPEW> IIRC qemu won't start if you specify `runqemu kvm` and it can't actually use KVM, so I _think_ it's working
<JPEW> Or rather, if qemu is running at all, it should be using kvm to accelerate
<TRO[m]> yes, that's working. How to get one inside of qemu?
<JPEW> If you're doing `nographics`, you probably also want `serialstdio`
<JPEW> I think you could also configure a way to SSH in, but that's the easiest to see "something" happening

Perhaps delete your do_install and build the package bitbake finalcut then go into the build directory of finalcut and check whats in directory called packages-split
