Hi, have you ever had a problem with do_image_ex4 task? The problem is that it cannot process some files into rootfs partition, even if they fit there. I thought about increasing rootfs partition size, but it didn't worked. I have managed to fix it using `IMAGE_ROOTFS_EXTRA_SPACE` variable, which increased it slightly by 1MB, but question is why

not a big fan of usrmerge - causes a bunch of breakage, violates the principle of least surprise for seasoned users, and is just change for the sake of change.

Hi, I am a Java noob. What is the preferred way to compile java source code and install the .jar file in the target?

paulg: you are correct, systemd will now only work with usrmerge
* RP
wonders who will fix the autobuilder
<RP>
I guess we can drop systemd testing to sort it? :)
<paulg>
works for me.
<paulg>
ubuntu still supports upgrading non merged rootfs installs ; AFAIK it only does usrmerge on new installs. Wonder how they'll handle the existing installed base?

some kind of one way systemd post install rootfs munger script forcing the New World Order?
<smurray>
paulg: a ways along in the linked thread on fd.o there's a link to the script debian use
<paulg>
What a surprise - Lennart doing the "my way or the highway" attitude. I'm so shocked.

RP: maybe that change should also be tweaking the INIT_MANAGER .inc for systemd to add the usrmerge DISTRO_FEATURE...?
<RP>
smurray: probably, but then it will surprise a lot of people

RP: yeah, it's definitely not ideal

smurray: they opted to use systemd, not usrmerge so switching it on them isn't a great idea
<paulg>
or we wait to see what part of systemd breaks on non-usrmerge rootfs and deal with that as it happens.
<smurray>
RP: true, but their builds are still going to break
<paulg>
it wont be the 1st patch we carry for systemd that Lennart wants no part of - won't be the last.
<RP>
smurray: but it breaks in a way which user then makes a choice about
<smurray>
when the majority of other distros have switched, it seems maybe not ideal to be the only ones skating uphill
<RP>
paulg: you just know they'll break the old layout support though
clifonlintic[m] has left #yocto [#yocto]
<paulg>
but just how complicated can the breakage be? Extending a path?
sakoman has joined #yocto
<paulg>
maybe I'm missing some crucial detail, but I can't fathom how the breakage can be anything but trivial to fix.
<RP>
paulg: mount points for initramfs to userspace handoff reading the above thread as starters
<smurray>
I've seen mention some of the newer sandboxing features depend on it
<smurray>
that's why we just went ahead and enabled usrmerge in AGL as part of our kirkstone upgrade

rburton: found it-seems like my issue is that SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH="0" in the image environment. how is this supposed to work for image recipes?
<rburton>
hushmoney: images should be using REPRODUCIBLE_TIMESTAMP_ROOTFS as a clamp which has a default value of not-zero
Wouter01001 has joined #yocto
<hushmoney>
my REPRODUCIBLE_TIMESTAMP_ROOTFS is set to something not-zero, but SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH is assigned to 0 from the get_source_date_epoch_value() function. i don't see this ever reference REPRODUCIBLE_TIMESTAMP_ROOTFS

<rburton>
gatesgarth is EOL, please upgrade etc
<hushmoney>
i know but i can't because of vendor compatibility
<rburton>
tell your vendor that gatesgarth is EOL :)
<hushmoney>
believe me, i am not happy with the situation
<rburton>
i expect in gatesgarth you can just turn off reproducbily builds

I should say, I don't have the build resources to test them all in a few hours that is
<Xagen>
how do i add the '--skip-broken' option to dnf when populating the sdk?
<landgraf>
Xagen: you don't have to. You have to fix real issue instead
<Xagen>
landgraf: i've tried doing that, but no luck
<Xagen>
i exclude gcc and linux-firmware from the package
<Xagen>
which then complains about gcc-dev and linux-firmware-dev needing them
<Xagen>
i try to exclude those, and they say there's no match
<Xagen>
both cases error out
<landgraf>
Xagen:it's very unlikely --skip-broken will help :-/
<Xagen>
if you know another way out of this, i would be very happy to try anything at this point

hmm i dont think my pkg_postinst_ontarget is running after an OTA. I'm using OSTree to update, but I guess the pkg_postinst_ontarget doesn't run is because technically the OTA is not installing the package? Rather it is just updating the diffs

yes
