tp43_: you really just need a cross compiler - ideally the same one used to build everything else on the target machine.

Yocto can do this, but it's in some ways overkill for what you are trying to do, as it will build an entire root filesystem for you.

OTOH ssh has a bunch of libraries it depends on, so you'll also need these (or to link the whole thing statically). So depending on your level of comfort with this sort of thing, having yocto generate a complete rootfs might not be a bad thing.
