isd: I'm still on a flip-phone but flip-phones have been getting steadily worse over the past decade and I really dnon't know what I'm going to do next.
<TimMc>
All I know is that I don't want the internet in my pocket. That would be bad for me.
<TimMc>
(My current one is actually based on Android, but is so badly implemented that it doesn't even count as a smartphone.)
<isd>
Yeah, I have often considered going back to a dumb phone. Having a web browser available to look stuff up when I'm on the go is genuinely really useful though...

Having the browser and email is critical, though I think I was better off without most apps.

(wrong window)
<ocdtrekkie>
Windows Mobile was excellent at this.
<isd>
I have never set up email on my phone. Seemed like a bad idea from day 1.
<ocdtrekkie>
Unintentionally, of course, but great for it.
<ocdtrekkie>
I'm contractually required to, pretty much.
<TimMc>
I've very rarely wanted to have a browser or even email while out and about.
<TimMc>
The one "killer app" for smartphones, as far as I'm concerned, is maps.
<ocdtrekkie>
I'm learning why some of you are so dang hard to get a hold of some days.
<ocdtrekkie>
I'm not at home right now, lol.
<isd>
Ah, see I usually look at those in the browser.
<TimMc>
I can use 2/4/6/8 to pan and 3/9 to zoom. ^_^
<isd>
I feel like if FOSS types can't work asynchronously we've really lost the plot :P
<TimMc>
ocdtrekkie: You're on call, I'm guessing?
<TimMc>
I've been on a pager rotation for the past decade and it hasn't been an issue. I can ack from SMS or robocall, or escalate if I'm not near my computer.
<ocdtrekkie>
I'm both never and always on call.
<ocdtrekkie>
I think we stopped bothering with a formal rotation, there's both enough redundancy real emergencies are rare and a low enough bus factor most problems are my problems regardless.
<ocdtrekkie>
Arguably I think if my employer pays for my phone so I can be reached for work, I probably have little excuse not to be easily reachable on it.
<ocdtrekkie>
I personally find it more anxiety inducing to be disconnected than not anyways. Maybe that's unhealthy, I don't know.
<TimMc>
It takes a different mindset. I think a lot of people have forgotten how to do it.
TMM_ has quit [*.net *.split]
TMM_ has joined #sandstorm
<ocdtrekkie>
I spent a half hour last night trying to build the J(A)SON Datastore app, and I hate Meteor bitrot and am just gonna write a bad PHP app I think instead just to collect Sandstorm installer errors.
<ocdtrekkie>
I suspect these 16 lines of code will stash the results in an SQLite table and I can probably make a pretty graph later.
