<nuclear_dolphin> Sorry

<yruama_lairba> hi, what to you use when you what to move a data from the main entry to an intterrupt context ?
<re_irc>
<yruama_lairba> a global "Mutex<Cell<Option<T>>>" seems a bit heavy
<re_irc>
<James Munns> any of the following crates: rtic, irq, or cmim
<re_irc>
<James Munns> But honestly, just RTIC.
<re_irc>
<James Munns> then a "heapless::mpmc::MpmcQueue"?
<re_irc>
<James Munns> or a pair of SPSC queues
<re_irc>
<yruama_lairba> maybe
<re_irc>
<James Munns> yruama_lairba: Might make sense to include all the context in your questions so people can help you :)
<re_irc>
<yruama_lairba> I was just curious
<re_irc>
<yruama_lairba> i'm actually trying to write a firmware for testing a HAL lib i writted. Sometimes i need HAL to be in interrupt context and sometimes in need to pool my HAL from the main context

<Jan Bronicki> Hi

<re_irc>
<Jan Bronicki> I would really like to get involved into some contributing so that I can actually help build something :)

<firefrommoonlight> My take: Start a project that interests you using appropriate tools or libraries. When you find infrastructure obstacles etc, fix them
<re_irc>
<firefrommoonlight> Alternatively: Learn a tool or library, and improve the docs
<re_irc>
<James Munns> embedded rust is a little more loosely federated than other ecosystems, like zephyr or mbed os - there's not really "one big project" that we're all working on. Everyone is kind of building their own components and projects, which interoperate based on the concepts of the language
<re_irc>
<yruama_lairba> hi, i there a way to enable autoformating for thing like ""#[rtic::app(device = stm32f4xx_hal::pac, peripherals = true,dispatchers = [EXTI0, EXTI1, EXTI2])]" ?
<re_irc>
<James Munns> so, if you ask a lot of people, you'll get a lot of answers, but there's not really "one thing" to work on. The things that end up getting discussed as part of the working group are larger, cross-cutting concerns, which usually aren't (usually) good starter issues/projects
<re_irc>
<James Munns> I think firefrommoonlight's advice is very good, try building stuff, ask here if you get stuck on something, and improve things that were/are confusing for you as you go :)
<re_irc>
<James Munns> yruama_lairba: autoformatting and macros usually don't play well together
<re_irc>
<yruama_lairba> it's a shame
<re_irc>
<Jan Bronicki> hm okay i get it
<re_irc>
<Jan Bronicki> thanks
<re_irc>
<Jan Bronicki> btw why isnt this thing on discord?
<re_irc>
<Jan Bronicki> i dont think many ppl use element io
<re_irc>
<James Munns> Theres about 1K of us here :D
<re_irc>
<James Munns> We used to be on IRC, and as a group decided to move to Matrix, mostly because it wasn't based on a proprietary/locked down service.
<re_irc>
<Jan Bronicki> sure i get t
<re_irc>
<James Munns> (the choices at the time were IIRC, "stay on IRC but move servers", discord, zulip, slack, and maybe some others)
<re_irc>
<James Munns> There is a rust embedded room on the Rust discord, but it's not nearly as popular as this one, and also not "official".

<9names (@9names:matrix.org)> discord is going to get a "favourites" tab soon, might actually be possible to keep up to date with that one text channel on each server that you actually care about
