<o0x1eef> That's one feature I need to deep dive into a lot more: pattern matching. Although the last time I used it felt kind of half-baked.

<nakilon> how do you guys feel about keeping you ruby software project documentation in Confluense?
<nakilon> I would love to keep in it gitlab/github wiki, with the built-in git log, blame, etc., but the corporative standards exist; what experience about Confluense + ruby (or any other codeing project) do you have?

<henk> atlassian is cancer and their software is a PITA
<o0ox1eef> My personal choice for that would be nanoc, the static site generator. But it isn't as effortless. You would have to invest in a layout, a site design, etc. But you have complete control over everything, tracked by git as well.
<nakilon> o0ox1eef: nanoc does not replace the editing tools, like Wikis
<nakilon> the github/gitlab wiki can be quickly edited while you read it in web
<nakilon> but in confluence I don't have 'blame' and 'unstaged changes'
<o0ox1eef> There's also that as well :) But you can edit the content directly if you have repository access, push to git, automatically deploy. It's not for everyone.
<nakilon> I would love to hear some success story so I could understand how to accept the boss's decision that we should not utilize the wiki
<henk> what boss? what wiki?
<nakilon> github/gitlab wiki
<kjetilho> the Confluence wiki is where information goes to die
<o0ox1eef> :))
<nakilon> boss of the company with hundreds of people with centralized Confluence
<henk> ah ok
<nakilon> not everyone is a git commiter, they are analytics, etc.
<nakilon> the argument is "we should not have more than one storage for documentation"

<o0ox1eef> A git wiki sounds like a nice compromise where developers can be developers and non-tech people can still read and contribute, I don't have any experience with confluence to pass judgement one way or the other, but you might find a better tool centered around the idea of a 'git wiki'
<kjetilho> GitLab wiki has awful search, though
<kjetilho> can't really recommend it
<o0ox1eef> https://github.com/gollum/gollum could self-host maybe

<nakilon> 13:43:18 <kjetilho> the Confluence wiki is where information goes to die
<nakilon> because it is detached from the code projects
<nakilon> everyone cares only about one page in a hundred in that tree, and it's like an absent garbage-collection
<nakilon> that's why for me using gitxxx+gitxxx_wiki is intuitively better than gitxxx+confluence
<nakilon> I would love to be proven wrong, to be told real stories how you document your ruby project in confluence

<havenwood> nakilon: Maybe you read it differently, but "goes to die" seems negative to me.
<havenwood> I don't *think* they're recommending Confluence.
<havenwood> o0ox1eef: I look out for chances to use it but without method guard clauses, it's somewhat limited.
<havenwood> Then again, and `in` with case or not can really be handy and worth considering.
<havenwood> And `=>` gives a nice error-raising path for some situations.
