I starting the journey of upgrading a Rails 4.1 project to 4.2 (and eventually 6.0), and bundle update is running for several hours. If I skip 4.2 and just try Rails 5.0, the bundle update is going MUCH faster. Any idea what's dragging down the 4.2 dependency resolution? There's not a ton of weird dependencies here or how I can run with a

the bundle --verbose flag does print additional info about all the gems at the outset, but not what's going on while the dots slowly print one by one.

and passing --jobs=8 to try to parallelize doesn't make a noticeable difference in speed.

bundler 1.17.3 since some dependencies are specifying <= 2.0 for bundler.

I pulled an old hat trick and commented out entire Gemfile and just went down the list a few at at time uncommenting and bundling.

that got me through the whole thing in about 10 minutes, so you're probably right that there's some sort of circular dependency in there somewhere.

I hadn't had to do a bundle update like this in years, so nearly forgot about this 'lil trick of mine.

Sequel, Roda, etc. There's never that "big upgrade".

Sequel is one of the best at not breaking backwards compatibility. Jeremy puts out some solid code over the years. I haven't tried his Roda project, yet, but it definitely looks solid from a distance.
