<dch> I maintain the lang/zig port on FreeBSD, and river's the largest "user" of this port
<dch> can river build against zig 0.11.0, or does it still require 0.10.x ?
<dch> the wiki and the README.md disagree a bit on the principle vs the actual
<angry_vincent> hey! i also use river on FreeBSD :)
* dch waves to angry_vincent
<novakane> dch: master branch use 0.10, where do you see a disagreement on the wiki?
<dch> novakane: readme is clear, "zig 0.10", https://github.com/riverwm/river/blob/master/PACKAGING.md#zig-version says "latest"
<dch> I'm wondering whether I wait a bit longer for river to catch up to latest zig, or if we do more work, fork zig 0.10.x and let river use that, but allow other zig based ports to use the 0.11.0
<uncomfy> zig in opensuse is still in 0.10.1. im just waiting for 0.12.0 since that fixes stuff a lot. is freebsd now in 0.11.0?
<dch> I have the port locally here, just working out what to do, to clean up the dependent ports
<novakane> dch: ah yeah, that's the doc to help packaging but the version in the README is the one that you should follow
<dch> is there any update to latest zig planned in the near future?
<dch> if not we should fork zig for the moment
<uncomfy> as for now, i dont want to break other software depending on zig just because zig is at 0.11.0 now. hence, why i held it back. i mean river still works well so uh not sure what benefit i could get if i updated zig 0.11.0 when i cant even build it in openSUSE build service 🥴 except on the Leap images. check out the next-zig branch. it builds
<novakane> there is a next-zig branch that use 0.11 though, should be merged relatively soon
<dch> novakane: thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that then
<TheAnachron> novakane btw I am using your zelbar for many months now and its rock solid, thanks again!

<x4d6165> Hi! I'm trying out river but I'm having an issue where it seems like river isn't reading the full init file? It misses some keybinds and also autostart programs
<FireFly> it's just executing the file afaik
<TheAnachron> does everything work when you run it manually in the console?
<x4d6165> yes that's the weird part, after i start river i can run the init script manually and the auto start programs start
<TheAnachron> is that possible that it depends on something that isn't ready/exported in that ENV?
<TheAnachron> you probably want to share the init-file with us after masking critical information
<x4d6165> will do
<dagle> How do you start river?
<dagle> That can matter.
<x4d6165> just running the command
<TheAnachron> does /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/kdeconnectd and /usr/lib/pam_kwallet_init return?
<TheAnachron> why do you not start them in the background like the other programs?
<TheAnachron> also please specifiy which command is the last one it runs.
<TheAnachron> You probably want to use set -x at the very top and log the output somewhere, like "river 2>&1 > river.log" and then check which was the last run command
<x4d6165> will do they're supposed to return but I'll double check that
<x4d6165> okay turns out they do return and set -x fixed it, thanks!
<TheAnachron> no, that is not the solution. set -x does nothing other than log whatever is being done

<TheAnachron> I think you still might want to dig in deeper, and also run the other jobs in the background. its possible it will stop working next time because it required you to run some program in another ENV that you didnt have when river starts
<TheAnachron> it may hang indefinitely.
<x4d6165> ahhh i see, thank you

<leon-p> tmpm697: assuming both windows are tiled, this falls into the domain of the layout generator
qyliss has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<leon-p> if you take a look at the rivertile man page, you'll find that that you can not only resize the main area, but also directly set a desired size

<leon-p> ifreund: zig-pixman could use a helper function to convert to and from pixmans fixed number type
<leon-p> I would PR one, but I only got my code working by accident so I am not confident in my understanding of this...
