<leon-p> do we support single-pixel-buffer yet? That would be a neat further improvement for waylock

<LemanR> hey all, trying to get tags working on my system. My only goal is to assign each view (window) it's own tag then toggle them on and off effectively bringing them up then hiding them again.
<LemanR> I made a script that should allow me to modify my code on the fly as it seems to me this has to happen in the for loop so making this it's own script is just for convenience until I add it to init ill post it in a sec
<LemanR> right now this isn't working but I'm not sure why https://dpaste.com/EVWWK9PEB
<LemanR> and I remembered to make the testing-init script executable
<LemanR> What I think it should do is, if I have say evince focused and I do super+alt 1 then evince should get the tag 1. Now no matter what the output's map looks like toggling focused tag should toggle evince in & out of view.

<LemanR> or am I supposed to do set-view-tags, my thought was that would set all the views in the output to a tag but maybe it literally means set A view not all of them
<LemanR> woah, so seeing the output from my script is cool and hinted at what's going on behind the scene when using this for loop. That's really cool. (it showed overwrote an existing keybinding for 1-9 of the loop.

<LemanR> no dice... oh and I am looking over the page leon sent me
<LemanR> k I see what I'm doing wrong. I thought the for loop was all I needed.

<LemanR> back, idk for sure if I can shove the tag stuff in a script for testing (before adding it to init).

<LemanR> yay, I'm doing tag stuff XD btw... it was totally the jargon losing me I.E why is set-focused-tags acting like workspaces when normally focus is like changing the 'active' window (that white outline around the window you are interacting with). River could use a re-jargoning lol
<LemanR> imo
<LemanR> oh and the script idea did work.....freaken love river for being able to do that

<LemanR> I....officially...get it. Because of the jargon you kinda have to 'just do it' IE copy-paste example and learn the output/view distinction. I still disagree with how the jargon is used in script as focus is typically thought of as the window you are working on but in the script 'focused' can be thought of as the workspace and toggling is like
<LemanR> setting some temporary state whether that is focus or view.
snakedye has joined #river
<LemanR> I would highly recommend changing the word 'focused' to something similar to workspace...maybe screen? so set-screen-tag? (doesn't sound right) but focused leads to so much confusion.
<LemanR> anyway I have to go. Thanks again for the great WM. If I start to contribute to linux programs I will definitely consider contributing to riverwm's progress. Personally I would love to find some way to get a view onto multiple monitors independent of how it's rendered on the output. That would be amazing imo.

<norkki> how can I make notifications hidden while on the lockscreen using mako, waylock and river?
snakedye has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds]
<norkki> I noticed mako has a "hidden" mode on it's man page. I just don't know to disable it after unlocking the screen
<leon-p> layershell ordering depends on the layer each application uses
<leon-p> you could also just wait for the next river version, which will be compatible with the new waylock version, which uses the new session lock protocol, where mako will not be displayed while your session is locked reagardless of layer
<norkki> oh ok, thank you for the info! :)
