hellmouth: Thanks for the help mate
<NikhilSingh[m]1>
Anyone how can I stop the system from going to suspend or idle state while downloading or watching movie? (Using sway idle)
<leon-p>
NikhilSingh[m]1: applications should inhibit the idling when they think that the user is still "actively" sitting in front of the screen despite not inputting anything, however I don't know how many things applications actually implement it. I think mpv does, not sure though.
<NikhilSingh[m]1>
So it should be handled by applications .....
<NikhilSingh[m]1>
For me my system goes to suspend if i am on a meet or m watching a movie online.
<NikhilSingh[m]1>
Will river have directional focus switching??
<NikhilSingh[m]1>
I saw a pr but is not merged?
<leon-p>
If you are using waybar, it also has a module that allows you to "switch off" idling
<leon-p>
river has many unmerged PRs
<leon-p>
see my comment on the PR for more information
<NikhilSingh[m]1>
Yeah just seen ur comment so putted on IRC 😅
<NikhilSingh[m]1>
In the case of idle i observed that applications those are using xwayland are unable to inhibit idle state.
<NikhilSingh[m]1>
Ig chrome uses xwayland
<NickH>
leon-p: Ooh, waybar-idle-inhibitor. Didn't know about that. Thanks.
<NickH>
Now if they'd just hurry up and release 0.9.14 so I can have river/mode ...

NikhilSingh[m]1: well, Xwayland windows will alsways be treated as second class citizens. That's just how it is.

Chrome should be native wayland these days.

depends how out of date your distro is I guess... though they should really try and keep browsers as up to date as possible to stay ahead of the continuous stream of RCE vulnerabilities

<leon-p>
do we have an issue already tracking the issue (heh) that moving a view to a different output should probably apply constraints?
<leon-p>
constantly hitting that now that I am back to using my workstation again
<ifreund>
leon-p: what do you mean by "apply constraints" here?
snakedye has joined #river
<ifreund>
do you mean constrain the view to the dimensions of the output if it is floating and larger than the output?
<leon-p>
yep, that one
<leon-p>
and since I have a weird setup of an ultra-wide next to a 4:3 display, I also have the issue that sometimes moving floating views from the larger to the smaller makes them disappear, as they are outside the outputs actual size
<leon-p>
trying to move them snaps them back to where they should be, as expected
<ifreund>
shouldn't be too hard to implemented, just a bit of code at the end of View.sendToOutput()
<ifreund>
I'd be happy to merge a patch
<leon-p>
sure, I'll see if I find some time today

<xaltsc>
Hey, I've been working on a rust library/cli tool for Rust over the past few weeks https://git.sr.ht/~xaltsc/rivertools . So far, it doesn't do anything interesting besides printing River's event, but maybe the code is clearer/more extendable/more generic than that of snakedye's from which I took inspiration ? Anyways, I'd love to hear criticism on this draft.
