at some point we should improve our list sorting performance, which is ok, but cpython is better
<cfbolz>
the new algorithm would be quite easy to port though, Tim has helpfully written up pure python versions

Is it possible to checkout to a former release. I want to checkout to a the last branch that had a compacting GC markcompact..or the branches for old releases are deleted.
<joannah68>
?
<cfbolz>
hm, I am not sure we ever did a proper good release with that GC
<cfbolz>
did you find a release number?
<joannah68>
I know release-2.0-beta1 still had it but I dont know if that is the latest release where the GC still existed.

joannah68: ok, so there is a release-2.0-beta-1 branch in the repo
<joannah68>
OK, found it, i guess it will need some fixing, wont compile correctly.
<cfbolz>
yeah
<joannah68>
It looks like it was the last release with that gc
<cfbolz>
joannah68: from which year is that?
<joannah68>
2013 I guess
<cfbolz>
joannah68: the last times I tried to build old pypys I actually used a virtualbox with old ubuntus 😓
<joannah68>
Are you saying if I used an old ubuntu, i wont have to be fixing any things, will work as is?
<cfbolz>
joannah68: yeah, that's what I did
<joannah68>
I will do that....thanks
