<J24k33>
teepee bought SUNLU grey last year - that had so little pigments that thin layer were quite transparent ( https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0789BWXKX )
<juri_>
(as in, i'm not at the CCC this year. or ever again, because covid. fuck covid.)
<buZz>
juri_: -ever- again?
<juri_>
yeah.
<buZz>
you're going to live rest of your life avoiding humans?
<juri_>
me and my wife both have health issues that.. yep. generally.
<J24k33>
filthy humans!
<juri_>
I've never seen my wife this healthy; before covid, she would catch a cold a few times a year, causing a few months a year of her being hard down.
<juri_>
now, no colds == always healthy... looking at the rest of the world, like it were on the other side of glass.
<buZz>
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
<buZz>
i'd rather die from covid than never be amongst humans again

your call. and, we can be around people, just at outdoor events only, following precautions. we went to camp, last summer.

<buZz>
last 5(?) cccongress i went to, i've only spent outside with the smokers :D
<buZz>
but that was 24c3/25c3 and onward
<juri_>
I did 31, 33.. then moved to germany. ;)
<juri_>
I spent the first year getting my shit together, spent the next six months recovering from hip surgery.. then covid happened.
<InPhase>
juri_: What caused the improved health? Unexplained good fortune? Or better isolation?
<juri_>
better isolation. my wife has a really messed up immune system. always has.
<juri_>
a cold would put her on immunosuppressants for months.
<InPhase>
So are you both remote working now?
<juri_>
yep.
<InPhase>
The rise in acceptance of remote work has definitely been a good thing all around. I hope it continues to rise.
<InPhase>
Not everybody can handle it, but the people who can handle it can really benefit from this. And the companies making use of those people have much better hiring opportunities.
<buZz>
too bad the globe cant function with only knowledge workers ;)
<juri_>
buZz: when AI takes out everything else... :P
<InPhase>
The only problem during Covid is it thrust everyone by job category into remote work without stopping to evaluate who could handle it.
<juri_>
yeah. it took some adjustment. i got lucky, and started fulltime remote about 6 months before covid hit. hip trouble.
<juri_>
I was just back to a day a week in the office.. when everyone went remote.
<InPhase>
juri_: I had also done a bit of working from home in my job just prior to the one I had when Covid hit, so I was 9 months into a new fully in person job. Which meant I already had a home office properly setup, unlike my coworkers who were scrambling to adjust.

teepee: How has that new laptop been going? I just wrote out a "your lack of responding to customer service requests disappoints me" email to Tuxedo, which reminded me to ask you.
<teepee>
not much happened yet, running basically stock debian and still typing on the old one :)
<InPhase>
Because of problems? Or you just didn't get around to it?
<teepee>
the minimal stuff done so far is promising, I have not tested everything and the only one I was concerned for a bit was no keyboard backlight but browsing through the FAQ found the magic FN
<teepee>
fn+space combination
<InPhase>
Ok. :)
<teepee>
sitting idle on battery it did just do down to 93% in a day which is better than anything I had before I think
<teepee>
so it seems to go to a decent sleep mode after a while
<teepee>
2k display seems nice with the odd 3:2 form factor I have on the work notebook too
<teepee>
faq states support for 4 monitors :)

Does that require 4 of the hdmi modules? :)
<teepee>
no idea, but probably usb-c works too or just one of those usb-c docking thingies
