<Haohmaru>
so i built a daplink firmware for the zl33prg debugger, before that i had the newest zl33prg firmware from kamami's website (but it's old), and i made a little statistic: https://paste.debian.net/hidden/1687fc11/
<Haohmaru>
the write/verify values are KiB/sec as openocd prints them
<Haohmaru>
flashing and verifying a SAME51 with ~24KB now takes less than 1 second, and when i think of how long it takes flashing a pic12f with 2K flash with pickit3, i wanna smash it with a big hammer untill it becomes fine dust
<PaulFertser>
:D
<Haohmaru>
it's not even funny, it takes... ages, seriously, it takes like 5 seconds untill the whole java CLI app even begins to print anything on the screen, and then it takes quite some more time as the thing probes the chip several times doing weird sh*t with it
<Haohmaru>
and if you're unfortunate enough, that pickit3 might have been used previously to flash a pic16f, so now as you're trying to flash a pic12f - the java CLI app has to change the pickit3's firmware, which takes even more time
<Haohmaru>
honestly, this is the most annoying programmer
<PaulFertser>
Some say patience is a virtue
<Haohmaru>
not when you have to flash a pile of chips
<Haohmaru>
you literally feel your beard growing
<PaulFertser>
Ask your kids or cats or something ;)
<Haohmaru>
this 99% is intentionally done IMO, the pickit3 isn't cheap, but they have even more expensive programmers... "production programmers", so IMO this is a strategy, when you deal with 2 kinds of pics - you'd think of buying another pickit3 just so you don't have to wait for the pickit3 to change its firmware all the time, and then when you gotta flash a ton of chips - you'd have to buy one of the $$$ programmers
<karlp>
pic has been obsolete since hte 90s.
<PaulFertser>
Esp. pic12f
<Haohmaru>
unfortunately, we keep dragging some old projects with them
<Haohmaru>
and microsh*t keeps making them
<Haohmaru>
i've been trying to move these to pseudo-xmegas (attiny402) at least
