<aladyshev>
But if I understand it correctly to actually use it I first need to fxload some firmware generated from the http://github.com/mithro/ixo-usb-jtag is this correct?
<PaulFertser>
aladyshev: do you really need to use that cable though? If it's supported by some fx2 firmware then it should work but probably this one differs from those that were supported?
<PaulFertser>
aladyshev: don't bother playing back SVF if "Error: JTAG scan chain interrogation failed: all zeroes"
<PaulFertser>
aladyshev: are you sure the cable is connected properly, and that the target power goes to its Vtref pin for reference etc?
<PaulFertser>
aladyshev: can you check with an oscilloscope if you get pulses on TCK line when starting OpenOCD?
<aladyshev>
This is the device that I have now. I just want to be able to use it with OpenOCD instead of Xilinx software
<PaulFertser>
aladyshev: probably trying other debug cables is good for testing though
<PaulFertser>
I mean something that's obviously good and supported like ftdi-based or jlink.

I guess someone just decided to buy cheap clones of the official programmers in the old days, since they work well with Xilinx software. But now I want to move to OpenOCD
<PaulFertser>
Yeah, ok, understandable.
<aladyshev>
I have a couple of different adapters, but they all have Cypress FX2 and an FPGA of some sort inside
<PaulFertser>
aladyshev: so can you check the voltage on pin 1 and signal on TCK when starting OpenOCD with the adapter connected to the target?
<aladyshev>
Honestly I don't really understand the purpose of the FPGA onboard, since from the `ixo-usb-jtag` repo description https://github.com/mithro/ixo-usb-jtag#general-information it looks like Cypress FX2 is enough for the JTAG by itself
<aladyshev>
PaulFertser: yes, I definitely can, but I guess I'll have to wait until Monday for that
<PaulFertser>
jlink clones are about $10 from aliexpress. Worth having one handy for comparison and SWD and flashrom etc.
<PaulFertser>
aladyshev: you can also try using some SBC (like raspberrypi) if your target is 3.3 V directly, OpenOCD knows how to bitbang.
<aladyshev>
I guess I'm looking for the solution that would work both with Xilinx and OpenOCD
<aladyshev>
On the new revision of our board we've just put FT2232, and it works perfectly
<PaulFertser>
aladyshev: well, looks like you're on the right track but I'm afraid some more hardware reverse engineering is needed to make mithro/ixo-usb-jtag work on your clone cables.
<aladyshev>
Yeah, that is what I was afraid. I just wanted to make sure that everything I do is correct. Thanks for the help!
<PaulFertser>
aladyshev: I can't say with 100 % certainty that's why I'm talking about probing the lines. Sometimes weird things happen and odd mistakes are made.
<karlp>
aladyshev: just one question, you'r enot using openocd from that arduino repository too are you?
<aladyshev>
karip: nope. I've just downloaded it from the apt-get in ubuntu
<karlp>
ok. goodo.
<karlp>
I have this memory of blasterII working, but eveyrone having problems with blasterI stuff.
<karlp>
but no experience myself
