darrenldl i would prefer a mere stdlib solution, i just want to add some linkflags to compile dune on an exotic platform, so i don't want to introduce extra dependency to the dune build system.

kinda like Python 3.3 changed sys.platform to say "linux" instead of "linux2" since Linux 3, 4 and 5 are essentially the same system and the number means nothing.
