<ecdhe> tmlind: yes! As I highschooler I wondered how it would work to have nested gpio expanders (you use an I2C port to drive an IO expander and get additional GPIOs, then use the GPIOs to control and additional IO expander, and so on.
<ecdhe> I didn't have much money and classes kept me busy, but I thought it'd be fun to put together a board with a large number of nested gpio expanders. And device tree makes it easy to register and I2C gpio expander, the GPIOs of which can be registered as a bit-bang I2C controller, which can then be used to register another I2C controller.
<ecdhe> The BSP would be rather amusing.
<ecdhe> I thought this would be a great project to write a GPIO expander driver, but every part I looked at buying already had a driver in the kernel.
<ecdhe> I supposed if I actually integrate I might find a bug
<ecdhe> tmlind: if you have any fun recommendations, I'm game
