<psi_> Hello! We recently switched from 4.9 vendor kernel to 6.1 upstream and noticed that we have less available memory on A113. The difference seems to be that the reserved memory got larger because hwrom_reserved got added to arch/arm64/boot/dts/amlogic/meson-axg.dtsi:reserved-memory. What is the reason for reserving memory for "Hardware ROM Firmware"?
<psi_> After disabling it, the system seems to still be stable.

<narmstrong> psi_: he, this is because from Linux we cannot know if the BL32 was loaded or not so we need to reserve this memory for the "general" case, the idea is to alter the DT from the bootloader and remove this reserved memory zone is bl32 isn't loaded
<narmstrong> it's the same issue for other socs

<HackerKkillinghi> f_ i have added something about this in https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/TVs#Amlogic_soc_based_tv_.28box.29
<f_> Ok.
<f_> I'll get rid of it, replace it with a much shorter sentence, and link to the Amlogic page :)
<f_> "Some Amlogic-based set top boxes are able to boot postmarketOS. See this page for more info. "
<f_> HackerKkillinghi: Yup.
<f_> Which is why I marked it as a WIP.
<HackerKkillinghi> f_
<HackerKkillinghi> add mainline uboot guides to it
<HackerKkillinghi> (at primary bootloader)
<f_> No(t yet).
<f_> I never played around mainline U-Boot as the primary bootloader, so for now, meh.
<HackerKkillinghi> Then iwill add it
Guest86 has joined #linux-amlogic
<f_> Not yet.
<HackerKkillinghi> Why
<f_> Because I didn't test this yet.
<f_> And thus it may not work on all Amlogic STBs.
<f_> What are you going to add specifically?
<f_> (curious)

<HackerKkillinghi> I know which stb should work with this
<f_> (don't quote what you're replying to. We're in IRC :D)

<f_> HackerKkillinghi: Yes but this is more of a general guide, so not yet.

<f_> HackerKkillinghi: Also please never ever mention Armbian's U-Boot images.
<f_> They're just random builds that magically work.
Daanct12 has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
<f_> And no one who made these images documented the process.
<f_> (luckily one of these images (probably all of those) used hexdump0815's instructions. Thank you hexdump0815!)
<HackerKkillinghi> Ok
<HackerKkillinghi> The link is related to hexdump 's uboot btw
<f_> Just link directly to hexdump0815's repo.
<HackerKkillinghi> Ok
<f_> That'll be much more helpful than linking to some random forum post containing random U-Boot binaries.
