I have an interesting one for you. I upgraded from 10.0.4 to 11.0.0 and now my system won't boot. I have verified that /KERNEL and /SYSTEM are identical to the ones in the official image and I have tried removing the "quiet" option from extlinux.conf but I can't seem to get any output on the screen past syslinux. No errors, just a blank screen immediately followed by an automatic reboot
<zhasha>
System is an AMD B450 motherboard with an Athlon 200GE IIRC, so Vega 3 GPU
<oblikoamorale>
I've no idea what's going on, but is this on Generic or Legacy build?
<oblikoamorale>
also, yay for LE11 final!
<zhasha>
Generic, non-legacy
<zhasha>
I'm more concerned about not being able to get ANY screen output
<zhasha>
linux is normally pretty verbose when booting
<oblikoamorale>
what's your boot media, have you verified that it's in a working shape?
<zhasha>
I just downgraded back to 10.0.4 in a... manual fashion and it works fine again
<zhasha>
so I'm going to go out on a limb and say the SSD is still fine
<zhasha>
even if it is ancient
<zhasha>
My current best guess is that the kernel crashes immediately on boot

<zhasha>
And I did remember correctly, it's an Athlon 200GE with Radeon Vega Graphics
<zhasha>
When in doubt I tend to blame DRM but I tried booting with nomodeset which changed nothing and I can't remember any other options to try out
<oblikoamorale>
search suggests you can add a 'debug' kernel cmdline option for verbose output, not sure if you'll see anything with your system rebooting so quick though
<oblikoamorale>
it's probably a good idea to try some livecd based on roughly the same kernel version and see if it even works
<zhasha>
Does the image actually support booting from a CD because I do still have a bunch of them :P
<zhasha>
Same result with a live USB
<zhasha>
black screen, immediate reboot
<zhasha>
I'm not really familiar with syslinux but I tried the normal way as well as 'live noquiet debug' and just '/KERNEL debug' with no change in behavior
<zhasha>
I've been wondering if it's related to whatever issue was present in 10.0.3

<Bardon>
Hello, libreelec website says that LE 11 is now stable, but the download page still calls it "Latest beta version". Is it stable, and safe to install?
<Bardon>
mack: Thanks :). I did, which is why I was surprised to see the release being called beta on the download page. Maybe I missed something
<Bardon>
I guess it's safe to install, it does say it's stable
<mack>
it's safe to install if the conditions listed don't affect you
<Bardon>
Ok, it should be fine then. Thanks for answering!

Image boots fine on my old laptop and now it really looks like the kernel dies in very early boot
<zhasha>
I've now tried turning on all manner of debug logging and I don't even think it makes it into the kernel. It's like it dies in syslinux before it's even done loading
GNUmoon2 has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
<zhasha>
Okay, I can boot the kernel manually from the EFI shell so it's definitely syslinux crashing on loading the kernel

It works when EFI booting. My install is just so old it uses an MBR so I guess I'll have to reinstall and try again
<zhasha>
yep, that did it
<zhasha>
That was a very painful upgrade. Some more things you might want to make people aware of: MBR might be broken and remove <gui> settings from advancedsettings.xml if kodi won't start
