<Karyon> Will the LibreELEC-AMLGX 10 or 11(nightly) box image work on an old Beelink MXIII? It's a GXBB S905. https://libreelec.tv/downloads/amlogic/ shows no AMLGX images so I'm a little confused.

<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> karyon: not sure, I don’t have a specific device tree for their older boxes
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> no harm in experimenting
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> please use the LE11 images in https://chewitt.libreelec.tv/testing/ and report back
chewitt has joined #libreelec
<chewitt> Karyon: ^
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> If you get something that mostly works I can ask their devs for the schematics .. if they still have them
<chewitt> btw, are you sure it's GXBB?
<chewitt> I see references to S812 in places
<chewitt> and a "mini" MXIII which is S905X
<chewitt> ahh, ignore, I found a device listing :)
<chewitt> looks like there are two variants, one with realtek wifi, one presumably with a broadcom module
<chewitt> the p200 dtb should maybe/probably work
<Karyon> chewitt: Thanks for getting back to me. I just checked and it's the `mini mxiii`, I could have sworn it was the S905 gxbb p200 1G Realtek. I have images of the board plus I can still boot it up so I'll check
<chewitt> "Beelink Mini MXIII S905 2G (Realtek WiFi) gxbb_p200_2G_1Gbit_RealtekWiFi"
<chewitt> ^ in the listing I found
<Karyon> That sounds right
<chewitt> see how far you get with the meson-gxbb-p200.dtb
<chewitt> it won't have wifi, but if that works we can do some experimenting
<chewitt> note that the boot process for mainline images is a little different .. don't rename dtb files, edit the name in uEnv.ini
<Karyon> chewitt: Thanks again for the assistance. I only see 10.80 images in your repo but I'll try the box image and report back. I also found the image of the board https://imgur.com/a/5v4V9z0
<chewitt> RTL8723BS wifi
<Karyon> That's the 1G Realtek if I recall correctly
<chewitt> no, pic shows RTL8711F for Ethernet
<chewitt> 8723bs is the SDIO module for WiFi/BT
<chewitt> the driver is upstream, but how exactly it gets plumbed into an Amlogic board is unknown
<chewitt> the sole upstream dtb with the BT device compatible is an Allwinner board
<chewitt> we can poke it later, Ethernet is more important
<Karyon> I believe it's a RTL8211F right beside the ethernet port. I'll burn the 10.80 box image and try that with the meson dtb
<chewitt> the pic shows it clearly
<chewitt> does it have S/PDIF optical audio out?
<Karyon> Yes, right beside the ethernet port. Here's the zoomed in photo of the rtl chip beside the ethernet https://imgur.com/a/Qy9ge4E
<Karyon> So apparently windows is tripping on the extracting and mounting the image so I need to switch to my Fedora desktop, I'll report back once I try and boot the image

<Karyon> chewitt: The image successfully booted using the meson p200 dtb that you mentioned, thanks! I'm going to have to change the remote since I wasn't given it but I do have an alternative remote
<chewitt> ahh, shame
<chewitt> it looks almost identical to the odroid remote, but almost certainly with different IR codes
ponyofdeath has joined #libreelec
<chewitt> can you run "dmesg | paste" so I can see the boot log; share the URL
<Karyon> I'm using a keyboard right now. I'll probably have to change the remote.conf if that's still a thing. I'm assuming I need to do that over ssh?
<chewitt> are there any LEDs on the box? .. and a reset button?
<Karyon> Thanks, I'll look into that after I figure the ethernet issue. It's failing to configure the eth0 mac address
<chewitt> try the minix-neo-u1 dtb
<chewitt> the p200 dtb is set for a micrel phy
<chewitt> the minix dtb is for RTL8211F
<chewitt> there are subtle differences
voltron has joined #libreelec
<Karyon> I have ethernet now. Here's the paste http://ix.io/3HmW
<Karyon> chewitt
<chewitt> doesn't look too bad
<chewitt> tell me about LEDs and reset button
<Karyon> No reset button or diodes I believe. It looks just like this https://techniblogic.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Beelink-Mini-MXIII-Ports-techniblogic.jpg
<Karyon> The only issue I see from that log that's concerning is 'Kernel image misaligned at boot' but I don't know enough about aligning the kernel memory layout
<chewitt> that's harmless and can be ignored
<chewitt> wifi won't work because I don't have the driver enabled in kernel config .. but that's simple to fix
<Karyon> Feels great reviving an old device with an upstream kernel :) Much appreciated!
<chewitt> give me a couple of mins and I'll share an update with a tweaked dtb and the wifi driver included
<Karyon> Sounds good :) I need to find a bigger sd card anyways
<chewitt> now has meson-gxbb-beelink-mini-mxiii.dtb .. and the RTL8723BS driver enabled
<chewitt> it's probably missing the firmware, but it should probe and complain with filenames, which I can then add
LEBot has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<chewitt> i'm not sure BT will probe correctly.. but you never know
LEBot has joined #libreelec
<chewitt> how did you provoke recovery boot? .. if it was a 'toothpick' method, that's the reset button :)
<Karyon> Awesome, let me get to work on finding a new card and I'll report back to you. Yes, I used that toothpick method...I thought you were talking about an actually reset button that the system monitors for being pulled down lol

<Karyon> Okay, I'll try right now.

<Karyon> chewitt: http://ix.io/3Hnz I now see other wifi networks but my own. I turned on broadcasting but maybe it needs to be rebooted
<Karyon> *but not my own
<chewitt> hmm, not sure
<chewitt> next update will maybe get BT working ..
<chewitt> download and update again
<Karyon> Actually I just turned on the 2G and it found the network

<Karyon> chewitt: http://ix.io/3HnD
<chewitt> it probed, which is a good start
<chewitt> and that tells me the firmware file to pick
<Karyon> nice, thanks again for everything!
<chewitt> download and update again
<chewitt> the baud rate for the BT chip in device-tree might be wrong .. but we'll see what happens
<Karyon> okay, updating now
<chewitt> I suspect it will request a config .bin file which will need renaming .. which is rather annoying
<chewitt> upstream linux-firmware repo names it as rtl8723bs_config-OBDA8723.bin not rtl8723bs_config.bin
<Karyon> little quirks like that must be annoying to deal with all the time. I do appreciate you taking the time to help me though

LEBot has joined #libreelec
<Karyon> okay, let's do it.
<chewitt> the only snag being .. the other source of firmware files has picked them from the same upstream repo that we just tried
<chewitt> so it's probably not the firmware at fault
gouchi has joined #libreelec
<Karyon> That's okay, I have to go out soon anyways so we can look at it another time if you want
<chewitt> getting late here too
<chewitt> I've noticed one of the kernel maintainers has a nexbox a95x which I also believe has the same chip
<chewitt> (and no support in device-tree)
<chewitt> so I might get him to dig it out
gouchi has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Karyon> Sounds good, I appreciate your help and keep me posted. Do you happen to know if one of the keymaps work for an old mxq remote like this https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51y502oyIRL._AC_SL1000_.jpg
<chewitt> see if rc-tanix-tx3mini works
<chewitt> the remote looks the same

<Karyon> Thanks, but it's not that one. I'm going to write a script that loops through all the maps and queries whether it should continue or config
<Karyon> Might even have to create a map
<chewitt> it's simple to create a map
<chewitt> follow the wiki link I shared earlier
