<threeflour[m]> That would be very nice to have! How would it look on the python side?
<whitequark[cis]> basically you make your subtarget a component with a stream.Signature(...) where ... is a data layout of your convenience
<whitequark[cis]> and you get like iface._send(cmd=Command.DoWhatever, arg=1, data=2) automatically, with those things mapping to the stream contents
<whitequark[cis]> you could use discriminated unions to send multiple commands without taking up too much of the encoding bytes
<whitequark[cis]> s/too/_too/, s/much/many_/

<planbrandom[m]> Nice I'm in the same boat, I work in gas detection and yeah we have some ancient stuff, but it still works rock solid and explosion proof, longevity seems to be the name of the game. I thought the Glasgow would be useful with some of this old stuff, and just not having to have so many wires everywhere but yeah a virtual com port would be helpful, and some rs485. I went a little left with a bonus and bought some gadgets to play with,
<planbrandom[m]> feel about that but he pays me.
<planbrandom[m]> the Glasgow, a bus pirate 6 with the serial world survival kit, a lilygo t-embed cc1101, and also dug out a tektronic mso2012 from the storage. I've been doing a bit of r&d experimenting for the boss man and his new ideas in my free time, I'm now researching the role of optics in flame and gas detection so mwir. I'm pretty new to this industry but I've caught on quick, he likes to call me his out of the box weirdo, not sure how I
<whitequark[cis]> rs485 is definitely something i'd want to have, although you need a bit of external hardware
<whitequark[cis]> virtual com port is still tricky
<planbrandom[m]> I'm going to give the com0com a quick try.
