<whitequark>
thought: it's good we don't have an onboard STM32 to manage misc functions and it's all on the FX2
<whitequark>
or we'd be in an even worse situation
<ebb>
an onboard rp2040 on the other hand
<ebb>
(not that anyone should mistake that for a suggestion...)
<whitequark>
heh
<whitequark>
we could put another 8051 on there!
<whitequark>
i don't think we're gonig to have a shortage of those
<whitequark>
i should finish my 8051 softcore
<d1b2>
<Darius> surely there is another 8051 core buried in it somewhere
<whitequark>
w-where?
<d1b2>
<Darius> I dunno but they seem to be everywhere
<whitequark>
i mean yeah
<d1b2>
<brainstorm> sh4 j-core softcore instead of 8051 because why not 😛 ... interesting conversations with the j-core folks in private, btw, I'm reaching out to Renesas folks and see what's their 2021 posture on H-UDI specs releasing... not holding much hope, but worth a shot, imho.
<icb>
Don't you already have the one required 8051 per project in the FX2?
<whitequark>
(one that _we know of_!)
<whitequark>
but yes. the reason to have an STM32 around would be to have more pins / functions
<whitequark>
since the FX2 is IO limited and we bumped into that a few times
<ebb>
bet that TI part has a 8051 for signal processing or something dumb
<whitequark>
which part? we have a lot!
<ebb>
Oh, fair point :') the one that's particularly holding up the production run
<ebb>
But I'm (hopefully) fully joking
<ebb>
TPS73101
<whitequark>
yeah no that one isn't going to have a core in it
<icb>
Linear regulator: probably no 8051. Switching regulator: Probably 8051

8051s are the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems
<davidc__>
icb: technically, the C8051F54x is an LDO with integrated 8051
<davidc__>
(though the vendor has chosen to call it an 8051 with integrated LDO, as they lack imagination)
<davidc__>
I know edsen has been running down all possible sources for the TPS73101 - arrow claims to have 2500 in stock. I guess its probably phantom stock?
<d1b2>
<esden> @davidc__ ... yeah for $2.51 a piece ... for a ~$0.40 part... we only raised so much money we can't just buy any scalper price part unfortunately 😦
<d1b2>
<esden> sorry $2.14...
<d1b2>
<esden> what the ... lol
<d1b2>
<esden> (I did not intend to send the strange bird 😄
<d1b2>
<esden> but I am indeed sorry 😦
<esden>
ohh interesting it does not show on the IRC side of things
<d1b2>
<esden> in any case.. we do keep searching and finding tiny pockets of more or less reasonably priced TPS73101 that we buy at every opportunity ... when there is enough of them and we sort out all the logistics of sending the parts to china for assembly we will do that. We will get there eventually. 🙂

esden - ah fair enough. I had no idea what the original pricing was on that, so didn't realize how unrealistic it is
<davidc__>
Good luck with the continued hunt, and I'll let you know if I see any more - assuming they are priced realistically!
