<mx08> Hi, is there a specific reason to not include a system-wide config file in /etc/ ? I often use them to keep track of upstream changes in the config file by adding a dummy comment at the top, then many linux package managers (pacman/xbps/apt/...) will print a notice during system update that the default config changed...

<florhizome[m]> Hi, what downsides does disabling the "terminfo" option have? Manjaro seems to do this. I hadn't looked at foots configure options when reporting my issue with guixes foot before, andit seems like that could be an option.
<florhizome[m]> On the other hand i could try to use "custom-terminfo-install-location" to hardcode the path, but it would be an absolute path since guix builds in a temporary directory and then installs the results to /gnu/store.
<sterni> you need to either install the terminfo then or pass through the TERMINFO var in e.g. sudo/doas (not sure if Guix is doing that, NixOS does by default)
<florhizome[m]> I sparked a whole convo about TERMINFO/TERMINFO_DIRS so that’s good to know^^

<florhizome[m]> sterni where could I read more about that?
<sterni> I don't think there's much documentation on it, but there's also not too much to it
<sterni> are the relevant configuration bits which are applied by default on NixOS systems
<sterni> and that should do the trick pretty much
<sterni> foot is also pretty tame because it uses TERMINFO instead of TERMINFO_DIRS, as the latter is a glibc invention and sometimes needs patching to work
