<cruxbridge> <tim> jloc0: which room ids are you talking about?
<cruxbridge> <tim> because ours in our matrix space have basically the topic set to what the irc channel has set, celebrating release 3.7
<cruxbridge> <jloc0> Oh I’ve already deleted them, but jaeger is in them, maybe it was the arm room touting 3.6… either way, there’s still another set of rooms
<cruxbridge> <tim> but which ones? I deleted the old space from the first server, it shouldn't exist anymore.
<cruxbridge> <tim> if there is others, they are not ours.
<jaeger> I only see 3.7 ones for what that's worth
<cruxbridge> <tim> i looked for public rooms hosted on matrix.org but can't find any
<ppetrov^^> jaeger, does your mate desktop now build fine against libxml2?
<ppetrov^^> i remember over a month ago i tried to build it and it had a few issues

<cruxbridge> <jloc0> Element iOS app lists these rooms in matrix-client.matrix.org network
<cruxbridge> <tim> I can't find a matrix homeserver at matrix-client.matrix.org, thus I can't see these rooms. Is it possible that these are old irc bridged rooms on freenode somehow?
<cruxbridge> <jloc0> They don’t appear to be bridged, hasn’t had any activity for years even
<cruxbridge> <tim> who owns those rooms?
<cruxbridge> <tim> still got http instead of https for crux.nu in the #crux-devel topic :D I dunno, I'd say they used to be bridged, something changed, the bridge got broken and they are just zombie rooms? I have no idea what else might be a possible

<cruxbridge> <jloc0> tim: Mods are jaeger and junland and seem like they may be attached to freenode— and if so would explain them
<cruxbridge> <tim> junland? but oh well, freenode has been the wild west of channel ownership last I heard
<cruxbridge> <tim> Maybe I just don't remember correctly, however. But I guess there is not much we can do about that
<cruxbridge> <jloc0> Yeah— I just wanted to bring attention to them, when I searched for these rooms, those had come up
<cruxbridge> <tim> certainly interesting, because I can't seem to find them at all. But maybe you are associated to a public bridge hosted on matrix.org and thats why?
<cruxbridge> <jloc0> The entire matrix network is a huge black box to me, I’m surprised I’ve been able to navigate this far into things lol
<cruxbridge> <tim> its not that bad. think of many autonomous irc networks that are able to connect together if users from one server want to connect to channels on another server
<cruxbridge> <tim> except it has spaces :D
<cruxbridge> <jloc0> This is all the servers available in the iOS app
<cruxbridge> <tim> at least OFTC is a strong hint that you have some matrix irc bridge connection going already
<cruxbridge> <jloc0> all this comes with the app, I never added a thing. This is what I find so confusing about matrix 🤣
<cruxbridge> <tim> on our server, cruxbridge plumbs that matrix room into the corresponding irc channel, so we host our own irc bridge and you don't really see it from the matrix side (if you look into which users are in this room)
<cruxbridge> <tim> really? but that might just be what your homeserver provider configured for every user to have available?
<cruxbridge> <jloc0> tim: Yeah, no clue. Element is a oddity itself, not my usual client
<cruxbridge> <tim> heh :D
<cruxbridge> <tim> thats one of the neat things, you get to choose from a ton of clients as well as servers (or host your own)
<cruxbridge> <jloc0> I usually use app.cinny.in but I’m too lazy to try out how it works on iOS
<cruxbridge> <tim> I read about it a few days ago, and looking at it:closer now: a desktop client not using electron but instead webkitgtk? Sounds interesting
<cruxbridge> <tim> Still lacking a few features that would be good to have though
<cruxbridge> <jloc0> I like it. It uses tauri dev envir but it’s easy enough to get it to build on things other than Debian
<cruxbridge> <tim> fwiw, I have weechat-matrix in contrib that basically makes it feel like a regular irc connection which you can store on a server tmux/screen in/out off like you may be used to
<cruxbridge> <tim> eh, I don't want to edit messages. this will look crappy for irc users. Probably should add that to the matrix topic
<jaeger> ppetrov^^: yeah, seems like everything builds with current libxml2
<cruxbridge> <jloc0> tim: I’ve got an irc iOS setup to connect to my bouncer and all that… I just don’t use it lol I have this mental block using irc on phone 🤣
<cruxbridge> <tim> I got schildichat on my phone but its not able to connect multiple accounts and I use my private matrix server too much, so no way I am changing it. Installing two different clients is where my mental block begins ;D I could still use the browser version but I bet this would feel crappy
