<ukky> jaeger: So, everyone is using openbox then?
<SiFuh> Heh, no chance
<ukky> why not openbox? I used it a while ago, it is decent WM, but I had to move on due to xml-configs
<ente> notion best wm
<SiFuh> fluxbox forever
<ukky> every WM has advantages and disadvantages. You have to try all of them to see what is best for you. Run multiple WM on different virtual terminals simultaneously to see the difference. I tried like 15 WMs recently. Still, the choice is FVWM
<SiFuh> ukky: They all suck. fluxbox rules. Been using it for 20 years.
<SiFuh> Hahaha
<ukky> SiFuh: I have fluxbox installed, but never used. My first WM was blackbox, that's why I was gonna try fluxbox, but ended up using openbox, and then switched to fvwm.
<SiFuh> Yeah I was using blackbox until fluxbox was created and I switched to fluxbox and never looked back.
<ente> I used them all and notion takes the cake
<ente> what's next, some vim vs emacs flamewar?
emmett1 has joined #crux
<emmett1> hello?
<SiFuh> ente: emacs rules!
<emmett1> hey SiFuh :D
<SiFuh> Heh emmett1
<ente> yes, but only emacs with vim keybindings
<ente> plain emacs sucks
<SiFuh> Does not! Hahaha
<ente> PC SUXX. AMIGAAAH
<emmett1> guys, my application menu shows nothing? anybody faced this?
<SiFuh> emacs -nw ~/.fluxbox/menu ;-)
<emmett1> application section in pcmanfm is empty? when run lxde, no application shows on menu
<SiFuh> Isn't that an XDG thing?
<emmett1> maybe, usually its fine in other distros
<emmett1> just run 'update-desktop-database' should shows all application
<emmett1> but not this time on crux
<SiFuh> update-mime-database /usr/share/mime && update-desktop-database
<emmett1> yeah already run that many times, still nothing
<ppetrov^> emmett1, don't you need to makje the fluxbox menu yourself?
<ppetrov^> it's been a while since i last used it..
<emmett1> fluxbox? i dont use fluxbox
<SiFuh> ppetrov^: hahaha that was a joke dude
<SiFuh> We were talking about notion/fluxbox, vim/emacs before emmett1 entered
<emmett1> owh ok
<ppetrov^> well, i should not try to chime in without reading more...
<ppetrov^> :p
<emmett1> btw grub is broken on crux
<emmett1> error unknown filesystem
<SiFuh> grub sucks ;-)
<emmett1> what did you use?
<emmett1> i've been using it since forever
<ukky> grub works for me (non-UEFI)
<SiFuh> I actually don't know much about grub so. I use SYSLINUX
<SiFuh> I don't think grub is broken on CRUX though since many users are using it.
<emmett1> ukky, not work for me both uefi and non-uefi
<emmett1> works after apply this patch
<ppetrov^> lilo foreva!
<SiFuh> LILO was pretty awesome
<emmett1> btw ukky does it works now? because it breaks on latest update. faced the issue when install crux from updated iso
<ukky> emmett1: I haven't updated it yet on a system that is running. Let me check grub version in the port...
<emmett1> ukky, the issue is not from latest grub, but from one of its dependencies
<emmett1> forgot which one
<emmett1> e2fsprogs i think
<ukky> I have built grub2 on 2023-03-31
<ukky> The same timestamp for e2fsprogs
<ukky> emmett1: grub-install gives you an error?
<emmett1> yes, before
<emmett1> now its fine after i applied patch above
<emmett1> i think crux dev should at it
<emmett1> happen on latest updated iso, using ext4 filesystem
<ukky> emmett1: grub2+e2fsprogs+ext4 work for me

<ukky> emmett1: have you tried fsck? /sbin/fsck.ext4 -n /dev/your_ext4_partition_device
<emmett1> no, because its already fixed with patch above
<emmett1> now my crux system already boot fine
<emmett1> with grub + patch above

<ivandi> i hit that grub bug too on a new install on ext4 with updated iso. latest e2fsprogs enables metadata_csum_seed by default and that breaks grub.
