jue: if you are reading this, i am just looking at the mariadb service file and I think it could be better. restart does not work for me, no idea if you can replicate that. running the status subcommand will return a "not sure if its running, but there is a pidfile". normal operation will spam the terminal because of the -bC switches used.

it works for me with this instead $SSD --start -bc mysql:mysql --pidfile $PID --exec $PROG -- $OPTS
