<ppetrov^>
hi guys, is there something "special" about CRUX's networkmanager? I have networkmanager-openvpn and openvpn installed, but nm just cannot establish a vpn connection? Some compile option missing?

I'm not sure, I don't use NM at all...
<beerman>
I have used it once and had to problem with it, but it's too long ago to remember. So that's a no from me
<ukky>
The question whether openvpn can establish connection without NM in their CRUX environment remains open. This might not be related to NM at all.
<jaeger>
I've used openvpn on crux in the past without trouble, though not recently
<beerman>
Why wouldn't it be able to work on crux?
<beerman>
For what it's worth, i have openconnect installed and working with our enterprise vpn we are using
<beerman>
With nm applett integration and all
<ukky>
I use openvpn right now, no issues. My IRC session is forced through VPN. IRC is blocked if it goes through ISP.

hi, to add up -- I am using openvpn succesfully rirectly (just point to the configh file). For network menagement I use connman, which should be able to provide openvpn functionality but I was not able to do it
<ukky>
Is it possible you start directly openvpn as superuser, but NM starts openvpn under different permissions? Can you check the user for openvpn, "ps aux | grep openvpn"?
<ppetrov^>
ukky, yes. I started openvpn as root just to see if it will work. Anywa, i have a solution (not what I had in mind but gets the job done)
<ukky>
Do you start NM as root?
<ppetrov^>
no, although I tried to use openvpn through nmtui as root
<ukky>
Well, that is the answer why it does not work.
<ukky>
openvpn needs root permissions to modify /etc/resolv.conf and ip routing tables
<ppetrov^>
well, networkmanager gets started from rc.conf. Trying to use openvpn through nmtui still did not work
<ppetrov^>
in fact, when i have networkmanager running, using openvpn directly does not work either
<ppetrov^>
anywa, if i figure it out, i'll stop by to let you know
<beerman>
is it known that nmtui supports openvpn connections? I only used it with nm-applett
<ppetrov^>
beerman, I tried with nm-applet, same result
<beerman>
no idea then, has been too long
<ukky>
ppetrov^: first goal in fixing the issue would be finding what is working and what is not. You can increase verbosity in openvpn.conf from default level 2 to 5 and restart your NM+OVPN session, and then check OVPN log in /var/log.

how much sense has adding nvme-cli to the iso?
