jaeger changed the topic of #crux-arm to: CRUX-ARM 3.6 Released! - http://crux-arm.nu/Documentation/ReleaseNotes3-6 | Logs: https://libera.irclog.whitequark.org/crux-arm/
<beerman> ☕️
<beerman> there is no contrib overlay for any arch is there?
<beerman> i am thinking about contrib/cbindgen, for firefox. maybe these could live in opt-arm64 as well?
<pitillo> yeah, better to add it to opt and maintain it there than add a contrib overlay
<beerman> alright
<beerman> really looks like with llvm out of the way firefox only needs cbindgen, thats it, which is pretty nice
<pitillo> great great
<beerman> this looked like 2.5h for linking libxul ;D
<jaeger> ouch
<beerman> 289:55.77 We know it took a while, but your build finally finished successfully!
<beerman> they know
<beerman> ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
<jaeger> heh
<beerman> thats not too long, really, considering the hardware
<beerman> and its nice to have the option to use the pi as a low power desktop
<jaeger> That's kinda why I was looking at the khadas edge 2
<jaeger> Bit more power than the pi for desktop use
<beerman> depending on what you do, that makes a lot of sense
<beerman> I don't expect too much from that pi
<jaeger> Yeah... for day to day use it's probably fine but I'm also thinking of lots of compiles for crux packages
<beerman> for that it would certainly be great
<jaeger> I'd also kinda like to have a good ARM laptop but the nice one from Lenovo is pretty expensive
<beerman> just forgive the pine for the keyboard? jk
<jaeger> My pinebook does not count as "good" :D
<beerman> true, low end, i'd still would love to own a pinebook pro
<beerman> but the phone is also a nice gadget, maybe even better
<beerman> can't worry about a bad keyboard if you don't have the keyboard case for it
<jaeger> I'd be tempted by a pinebook pro, yeah... assuming they improved the keyboard
<jaeger> I've also looked at some generic ARM laptops on alibaba but I have very little data about them
<beerman> the market is just getting there i think
<jaeger> yeah, I'm sure there will be more soonish
<beerman> seing how good the m1 stuff from apple took off i think that a lot of companies will want some of that cake
<jaeger> Undoubtedly
<beerman> i just have more respect for pine than for apple, is all 😄
<jaeger> A friend who works for Kali told me the Thinkpad X13s is pretty nice but still expensive
<beerman> but thats x86_64 again, right?
<jaeger> No
<beerman> oh the snapdragon unit
<jaeger> yeah
<beerman> Snapdragon® 8cx Gen 3 Compute Platform (3.00 GHz up to 3.00 GHz) <- how precicely it can do 3.00GHz, nice 😄
<beerman> looks very cool, indeed
<beerman> btw, I lied. We also need to overlay opt/brotli for the footprint <.<
<beerman> why again don't we strip arch in footprint like we do with the kernel version?
<jaeger> Probably just hasn't really come up. Maybe we consider it for future releases
<beerman> I guess it would make sense, as it can cut the needed overlay probably by a fair bit
<jaeger> We did talk about it for python versions, too, but that's a bit of a challenge since there are a bunch of different patterns. I'm still interested in doing that, though, generally
<beerman> I think I can remember something along those lines
<beerman> I can remember better that I still wanted to port the rest of the apache config to nginx, but oh well 😄 hasn't come up yet
<jaeger> :D
<jaeger> Hrmm, they seem to have a coupon making a $1900 configuration about $1000, interesting
<beerman> I kinda digressed here with the Pies but I really want to build a poper CRUX image for the pinephone
<jaeger> I'm told (by the friend at Kali) that there's still work being done in the kernel for GPU and audio at least on the thinkpad, so maybe too new to consider one of those yet
<beerman> heh, yeah I am not hunting for new hardware right now, if anything, I am looking to give some away.
<beerman> I am eyeing one of these two 19" proliants right now <.<
<beerman> pitillo: opened a few more pulls for you to review, have fun 😜
<beerman> with these you should be able to just boot a fresh CRUX ARM install and run prt-get depinst firefox and it should just finish after a day and maybe a bit, I guess
<pitillo> I saw rhe n
<pitillo> I saw the email notifications beerman :D
<pitillo> we have a single's night my wife and me... the kid is with grandparents xD
<pitillo> a pity that I wole up at 4:45am this morning...
<pitillo> about new laptops they will come soon from different manufacurers for sure, the market is currently growing. Most of then I saw they are using snapdragon... let's see how its development goes
<pitillo> but it'd be great to see more of them soon, they seem very promising. My experience with the chromebook was very satisfying (it still needs some love, but kerneñ development was sropped and is's a shame, because it has good and balanced hardware)
<pitillo> I love the M1 and I use only over ssh and with docker...so I'll wait my wife next update, so I'll inherint it xD
<pitillo> on the time, I hope kerbel development grow and gets stronger to have laptops fully supported, in that time, I'll think about getting one of them
<pitillo> taking back to the start of the talk about footpeints, I believe it's hard but not impossible. For CRUX-ARM it could be very handy removing some overlayed ports which only differs on footprints (others will still need some love for ARM arch)
<jaeger> Asahi linux for the M1 seems to be making a lot of good progress
<jaeger> I haven't tried it myself, just look at how they're doing now and then
