<pr0cess0r> Hello all!
ikarso has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
<pr0cess0r> i have a hard time finding info about properly implementing usb on the PB
<pr0cess0r> i have a board with one usb port wired it work but what about adding a usb hub and proper esd over current protection?
<zmatt> I mean, simplest way would be to just hook up an off-the-shelf hub
<zmatt> (preferably a separately powered hub (rather than a bus-powered hub) since those are required by the usb spec to have overcurrent protection)
<pr0cess0r> look like it need to be powered
<pr0cess0r> do you know if for example a powered hub that i dont power will allow more amp to be draw from the usb pour ?
<pr0cess0r> vs opne that dont have a power input
<pr0cess0r> that would be a solution!
<zmatt> I have no idea what you're trying to ask
<pr0cess0r> you said that bus powered hub must have current limit
<zmatt> no
<zmatt> I said the exact opposite
<pr0cess0r> oups i re read it sorry
<zmatt> a bus-powered hub is allowed to simply rely on the protection that the host port is supposed to have
<pr0cess0r> ok i see
<pr0cess0r> so its safer to use on a bare usb port like i have now
<zmatt> (which will be absent if you wired it up to the pocketbeagle without any circuit)
<zmatt> no
<zmatt> you have no protection right now
<zmatt> well, depends on how you wired it up I guess
<pr0cess0r> i mean une my not protected port with a powred usb hub
<zmatt> if you connect a powered usb hub to the pocketbeagle then it should take care of things
<pr0cess0r> it have a 500mA ptc fuse but no other protection
<zmatt> do be careful, some cheapass powered usb hubs backfeed power to the host power, which is absolutely forbidden by the usb standard can can potentially damage the host
<zmatt> *and can
<pr0cess0r> that why i try to get information and do better usb design on my board
<zmatt> I mean, it's possible of course but not simple
<pr0cess0r> i guess this cape implementation of usb is safer https://beagleboard.org/capes/techlab
<pr0cess0r> it have esp and over current circuit i think
<pr0cess0r> but wonder if possible to do something similar with usb hub on board
<zmatt> sure, but a well-behaved usb hub is not simple... also keep in mind that usb 2 signals are quite high speed and require careful PCB design
<zmatt> unfortunately I need to go, afk

<Guest8100> Hello...um, Does HexChat support the LiberaChat stuff?
<vagrantc> you might have to manually add configuration for it rather than selecting from a preconfigured network, but no reason it wouldn't support it

<Guest8100> Okay.
<Guest8100> Thank you.
<Guest8100> If you have not noticed the punctuation. It is me, set__!
<Guest8100> Punc-u-a-shunned!
<Guest8100> Argh.

<vagrantc> welcome back
<set_> It is me!
<set_> Now, time to lock it like Becky on Dancing w/ the stars!
<set_> YOu know? Pop, lock and drop it?
<vagrantc> can't say i do
<set_> Forget it.
<set_> Oh.
<set_> WEll, you should try it one day!
<vagrantc> how's your flying beagle going?
<set_> You just repeat those words over and over. Then, some spasms and a nice whoot!
<set_> vagrantc : Did you try it yet?
<set_> Fine. I will try it by myself. Argh.
