<mort> arnd: according to menuconfig, QCOM_CLK_APCS_MSM8916=y
nsaenz has joined #armlinux
<arnd> mort: you could try adding a pr_warn() into sdhci_msm_probe() to see if it gets called at all, and if it does, drill down further to see where it bails out
Turingtoast has joined #armlinux
<mort> that's a good idea, I'll try that

<mort> arnd: hmm, I added a few `pr_warning`s to the very top of sdhci_msm_probe, that doesn't seem to have had an effect..

<bencoh> I dunno if your board is still supported / if the devicetree is maintained, but you might want to make sure the compatible string of your mmc device is still matched by the corresponding driver
<bencoh> (although I kinda doubt it would just disappear assuming it's really just a snapdragon410)
<bencoh> _probe() not being called usually means that either the device or driver is not present, or that compatible doesn't match

<mort> https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/msm8916.dtsi#L1395-L1411 we're including that msm8916.dtsi file, it defines sdhc_1 which is the internal eMMC
<mort> since it's upstream I would hope that it's still correct

<arnd> mort: one thing that was introduced not that long ago is "device links" that can annotate that a device should not be probed until another device is present
<arnd> see device_links_check_suppliers()
<mort> something introduced "not that long ago" sounds like the perfect place to look, considering it stopped working in relatively recent releases
<arnd> if you enable dev_dbg() debugging for drivers/base/dd.c and drivers/base/core.c, you should see boot-time information about it
<mort> nice, I'll do that
<arnd> I've never used dynamic debug at boot time (I'd just "#define DEBUG"), but Documentation/admin-guide/dynamic-debug-howto.rst has some explanation for how to do it in case you are looking for that
<geertu> mort: You can revert to the old behavior by using "fw_devlink=off
<geertu> mort: You can revert to the old behavior by using "fw_devlink=off". Or try "fw_devlink=permissive"
<mort> As a kernel command line parameter? I'll see if that makes a difference, thanks
<mort> well, setting fw_devlink=off didn't have an effect
<geertu> mort: OK, so it's not devlinks

<mort> this caused our own dts's "sdhci@07824000" to not match anymore
<geertu> mort: One more reason to start using labels ;-)
<mort> I would have assumed that the address is numeric, so that `sdhci@07824000` and `sdhci@7824000` refers to the same thing, but no

<olofj> FYU; Arnd is on vacation, and I left my upstream machine powered off at home. I'll be back home on Thursday and will merge any outstanding fixes and send them out then.

<olofj> If anyone here is still on Freenode; please just leave the channel there so 1) it doesn't look like it's alive still and 2) we can tell who hasn't moved yet and reach out.
