[Discord] <amazingfate> Both panfork and panthor have their disadvantages at the moment. But panfork is dead and will stay the current state forever.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gambl0r> I've just set the following and it's worked without side effects: `hdmirx0 = "disabled";` which was previously: `hdmirx0 = "/hdmirx-controller@fdee0000";`
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <boogieboogieboogie> i think those kind of benchmarks should be reported directly to collabora, i am not sure they are even aware of it
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <boogieboogieboogie> ofc better to be tested with their own kernel
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <boogieboogieboogie> some tips: dont mention specificly panfork to mesa people, some people really hate it due to some previous drama, just say alternative implementation, dont say this sucks please do this, when can you do that, instead, do a reproducable benchmark, and show the difference. If you show that your intention is to help them, they will gladly appreciate it. Hopefully π

[Discord] <tomzy_0> Hello I have Pine64 Quartz64 Model-A on which I need to do some WebKit engine benchmarks, using this Jammy image https://www.armbian.com/quartz64a/ allow me to do such thing?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tomzy_0> webpage says that it still has problem with units over 2G of RAM, is it still an issue?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <amazingfate> You can try it. This is just a common rk3566 board.

[Discord] <shivansps> From what i saw im petty sure any that benchmark on panthor it is going to give you the incorrect result, game reports way more fps than what it is
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> From what i saw im petty sure any syntetic benchmark on panthor it is going to give you the incorrect result, game reports way more fps than what it is
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> Im not going to be able to report anything until it is officially released on 6.10...
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> I do wonder about the RPI5, but honestely i cant find any excuse to buy one
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <infinity_q> me neither
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gambl0r> for anyone that is interested, firefox nightly arm64 builds are accelerated with panfrost and renders way nicer than chromium on orangepi5-plus 6.1.43-vendor-rk35xx jammy
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gambl0r> it still reports the a strange user agent: `Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:127.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/127.0`
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <monkablyat> yeah might be but no widevine on firefox
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <infinity_q> that's interesting, either that's a bug, or it actually spoofs the arch by default
<DC-IRC>

<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gambl0r> yeah no widevine
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> probably by default bc some big websites (cough youtube) donβt give arm64 user agents higher quality video options for example
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <infinity_q> ikr
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <monkablyat> You can also spoof user agent yourself if you need something else for whatever reason
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> im going to be honest with you, i reported a bug with Panfrost with the shader code unable to resolve some complex large branching shaders, at the moment it affected Bitfrost gpus (G31) but i knew all bitfrost and valhalls gpus were affected, i even did some test on the mesa code to find out on what exact line it was crashing, and when they realised there was no easy fix all i go <clipped message>
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> t was a "Hm, too bad." this bug now affects G610 on Panthor too and when i updated the issue about it i got no answer. The person that answered me at the time is the main one behind panthor.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> I think panfrost is cursed, they may make PanVK from scratch and enable OpenGL over the Zink wrapper and call it a day.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> I dont think they are going to make any effort on the OpenGL driver anymore, and a lot of it depends on for what ARM is paying then for exactly
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <boogieboogieboogie> yeah, that sucks then, to me mesa is also like black magic i have no clue how it works, and people who understand seem to be a member of secret cult with their own prios
<DC-IRC>

[Discord] <gambl0r> surely if they want to use these in mobile gaming platforms, they need to get it right
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <monkablyat> Maybe these Panthor mesa dev dudes just need to play more video games and then get angry that it doesn't work properly
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gambl0r> lol
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gambl0r> the games I expect to work well on this orangepi5 do: gzdoom, dhewm3 and ioquake3
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gambl0r> I wish it could do doom 2016 though
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gambl0r> not from packages btw, compiled. because the packages are way old
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <boogieboogieboogie> or someone who plays the games should be mesa dev, think bigger
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <amazingfate> That's how open source works. You do, you change.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <monkablyat> But as already mentioned by boogie,open source GPU driver development is probably only mastered by a very small group of people, so PR's are rather rare
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lanefu> needs larger people
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <monkablyat> I don't know if the NBA now also trains mesa devs
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tyro_noob> Hi does anyone know which image has SPI in the armbian-config so I can enable it?
