[Discord] <shivansps> the OPI3B clones ZSTD at 2.75GB/MIN on avg in clonezilla to nvme and usb3.0 to sata adapter not great not terrible, ill need to check if thats cpu limit or pcie
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> not sure why the % completed is bugged and always stays at 1%, the images restores just fine, never saw that bug before
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gambl0r> any chance the npu driver can be included in 6.1.43-vendor-rk35xx?

[Discord] <Werner> Should be possible at least. I think @spooky8086 did something in that matter on his kernel sources repo
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <spooky8086> I can send a pr later to 6.1 for the opi5+ 1% load issue.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> mmm htop dosent seem to agree it is cpu limit... i wonder if im hitting an i/o limit somewhere, the OPI5 is able to clone 3 times as fast with a gb and a x1 2.0 nvme

[Discord] <v_alis.is> Hi, I just got my **cm3588 kit** with ASM1166 riser. I still have to test whether it even works. But I wonder... **can I help somehow?** I develop, but I do *not* have experience with kernel development. Additionally I wonder what is status of GPU support. I see we have 6.8 kernel on bookworm and jammy build but open source GPU driver was added in 6.10. Is GPU acceleration availa <clipped message>
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <v_alis.is> ble at this point either through blob (not sure if armbian uses blobs just guessing here) or foss driver? Is there anything I should be aware that won't work? Except the gpu I am looking mostly for nas stuff - hdmi, pcie, boot from emmc, gpio and ideally the IR. (I am sorry if this is wrong channel, let me know if I should move this)

[Discord] <mecoblock> you basically have two options:
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> 1. downstream (recommended) 5.10/6.1 vendor kernel with basically everything supported as well as mali blobs for GPU.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> 2. Upstream (Edge) fully open source non hacky but very much still in development. If you just need compute I‘d say use it but if you want any HW accel use legacy/vendor.

[Discord] <mecoblock> as for legacy or vendor:
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> legacy has been tested for a while there’s lots of patches done on top but it’s a very hacky kernel and not comparable to upstream 5.10. For example some dkms modules won’t work on it like ZFS.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> 6.1 vendor is rather new but official. Forked from upstream 6.1 but still encounters bugs which currently get fixed by community/rockchip.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> security issues are obviously worse on legacy and you just have to look for your usecase. NAS + GPU should be fine with vendor 6.1
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <v_alis.is> By vendor do you mean these?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> the community Armbian Jammy KDE Neon with panthor 3D/VPU image for OPI5A is not working, after login in it returns to the login screen
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> i can ssh to it but not sure what it is the problem exactly
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <efectn> @shivansps is it 6.8 kernel?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <efectn> If it is, install latest edge kernel from Beta repo and install armbian-firmware-full
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> it is the 6.1, the image i downloaded a few days back was working out of the box, this one does not, im petty sure it is just the neon desktop that is broken
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> seems to work after a apt upgrade
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> Nope, panthor dosent really works for me it starts working then it inmidiatelly starts shuttering hard and ends up crashing the whole system
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> idont know wha tto do really i have nothing to tell mesa

[Discord] <shivansps> oof and performance is also like 1/3 of panfork
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <shivansps> for the short minutes it actually runs
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> Some people here might have different opinions but I‘d say it doesn’t help out and the right people are on it to bring support. If you’re not from a driver dev /kernel background just stick with what has the best compatibility (6.1.43 / vendor)
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <v_alis.is> Alright. Thank you 👍
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <v_alis.is> How can one tell apart which kernel is vendor? 🙏
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <infinity_q> umm, because most things will work on the vendor kernel (and decently well), is one way to tell (at least for now)
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <v_alis.is> Isn't there some reference in build scripts/configuration or something like that?
