<DC-IRC> <nicod_sbc> Anyone aware if there's any progress on mainline for Khadas VIM4? I also did hear about a 5.10 kernel that supports panfork. Can I build that?
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> @nicod_sbc The VIM4 is Amlogic right?
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> The Edge2 for Khadas (Edge2) RK3588s I got a update from them 2 days ago and no eta yet on mainline.
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> not sure on any of the others though
<DC-IRC> <nicod_sbc> Yes. A311D2.
<DC-IRC> <nicod_sbc> Armbian now supports the board with 5.4 images. But panfrost/panfork can't work with that kernel. So was wondering if anyone knew anything more about mainline for it.
<DC-IRC> <viraniac> Right now the dts in mainline kernel is pretty barebone. Also there is lot of subsystems missing.

<DC-IRC> <nicod_sbc> Ok, so it will take another while 🙂
<DC-IRC> <nicod_sbc> I like the board, too bad software isn't the best.
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> Yeah it looked really empty on Rockchip too for Khadas
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> The Khadas boards aren't being supported very well
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> They are "stable"... but kinda old on software
<DC-IRC> <Tonymac32> Khadas seems to have no interest in even putting the energy into a device tree for mainline, the edge 2 has a UART-only device tree, for example.
<DC-IRC> <Tonymac32> I can do it, but I don't have a ton of time and no one will lay down the cash for the 20 hours or so it would take
<DC-IRC> <Tonymac32> *starts a GoFundMe for Kernel work*
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> Agreed
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> Sad but true
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> Sad but true but we aren't paying "them" anything either to do the work so we have no reason to really complain.
<DC-IRC> <Tonymac32> Haha well I would argue that they have a lot to gain by releasing the device trees into the wild, their vendor kernel becomes less "different" and should be more maintainable. Save $2000 today and instead spend $50k+ over the next couple years.
