<peterm6881> hey Xogium
<peterm6881> a new version of mplayer, 1.5, was release in February 2022. I thought it was going away and mpvs the replacement for it appears mpv, while built on mplayer and mplayer2 (which was basically a stepping stone to mpv), it appears mpv development is simply running in parallel with mplayer
<peterm6881> mplayer2 disappeared, because its now mpv
<peterm6881> but like Mark Twain said, "reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated"
<Xogium> ah… I suppose its a good thing then ?
<Xogium> but then again mplayer is also a video player
<peterm6881> indeed
<peterm6881> yeah cmus was an epic fail
<peterm6881> lol
<Xogium> oh, do tell
<peterm6881> it wouldnt play url streams at all
<peterm6881> just sat there looking dumb
<peterm6881> there were no keyboard shortcuts, it was shit
<peterm6881> now, mplayer in the ubuntu / debian repositories are stuck at 1.3
<peterm6881> guess when that was released
<Xogium> I'd say, somewhere in 2017 or so
<peterm6881> 2016-02-16
<Xogium> well, I was not too far off
<peterm6881> have you got it installed?
<peterm6881> indeed, well played my sister
<peterm6881> what version is in Arch
<Xogium> lets see
<Xogium> it looks like its using a git commit as version
<Xogium> yeah they litterally took a git commit from the repo lol
<peterm6881> what does that mean?
<peterm6881> brb

<Xogium> they didn't take a released version, they took some commit and packaged it that way
