<peterm6881> hey Xogium are you there?
<peterm6881> I just wanna confirm, after i do a git pull on the Speedsaver git, I run make distclean from buildroot-2021.02.8/output/speedsaver
<peterm6881> then make BR2_EXTERNAL=/home/peter/Speedsaver O=output/speedsaver speedsaver_defconfig
<Xogium> yes but that's what I was talking about the other day. Once I merge rauc in, which I'm going to do if we can manage the migration, you will no longer be able to produce and build your own images because you're not a part of the CA
<Xogium> only Steve and I will be able to give you bundles you can install
<peterm6881> CA?
<Xogium> certificate authority
<Xogium> only certificates that are member of the authority can produce valid bundles, to summarize
<peterm6881> that should be ok
<Xogium> otherwise rauc will refuse your bundle… And in practice your build will even fail because you don't have the required files generated for it
<peterm6881> if im updating remotely i dont need to build them here
<Xogium> indeed
<Xogium> ok I have an image for you to test, it's uploading to my nextcloud
<peterm6881> although the plan would to be to have the Speedsaver server deliver the updates eventually
<Xogium> well, if we use the f1c200s, that will not exactly work
<peterm6881> so are you saying the image im building now wont work? Or are you saying that process will no longer work once you migrate
<Xogium> the latter
<Xogium> the image you bild now has chrony in
<Xogium> the rauc branch is still med with a WIP prefix, for good reasons
<Xogium> *named
<peterm6881> what will the process be for the f1c200s
<Xogium> depends, if I manage to make the usb mass storage work, people could go download the raucb file then drag and drop it onto the device that would show up like usb flashdrive would on their pc
<Xogium> rauc would then install that
<Xogium> otherwise if you're in the midle of nowhere and need to update, you could connect a usb flashdrive with the raudb file in, and rauc would also install it
<Xogium> that's why gps time matters a whole lot more on f1c200s, there's no ethernet, so it is litterally the only way to have accurate system time
<peterm6881> we havent checked if it has a RTC
<Xogium> hmm it won't matter
<Xogium> or shouldn't
<Xogium> system clock isn't the same as rtc clock
<Xogium> chrony adjust the system clock, not the rtc
<peterm6881> yes but when they bring the device indoors to update it, they wont have a fix
<Xogium> unless its told to do that, mind
<Xogium> hmm
<Xogium> well then I guess usb key is the only reliable way
<peterm6881> we cant guarantee a fix at all times
<Xogium> usb key with the device still in the car, don,t see any other way
<Xogium> you said it yourself, there's no ethernet
<Xogium> the only other possible way would be, if it has a rtc, and we battery back it up
<peterm6881> that would be ok, in fact i would prefer they dont remove the box from the car. It has power, and the sticky base would lose adhesion if its repeated removed
<peterm6881> there might be some options for maintaining a system clock, just maybe not with the MangoPi-R3
<Xogium> alright then so, people will just drag and drop the file on the usb pendrive, go in their car, plug that in, wait for update to finish, and off they go
<peterm6881> that sounds workable
<peterm6881> yeah I think that sounds better than just about any other scenario i can think of
<Xogium> of course we will have to do our part to ensure that the update doesn't brick devices, but that's expected anyway
<peterm6881> has your image uploaded?
<Xogium> though, it will be pretty damn hard to fuck up so bad we can,t recover, with rauc
<peterm6881> lol
<Xogium> you get the concept of rauc, yes ?
<Xogium> I mean, the whole what it does thing
<peterm6881> not yet
<peterm6881> im on call and I need to go out, grrr
<Xogium> oh well, I guess we can try tomorrow
<peterm6881> is the image uploaded?
<peterm6881> if I can burn it I can check it boots and you can remote onto the Speedsaver
<peterm6881> 2 minutes ;)
<peterm6881> you said :) :)
<peterm6881> I can give you about another 5 - 10 mins
<Xogium> well that's the whole problem, I struggle to upload it for one and two it's nowhere guarentied to boot
<Xogium> for all we know it will fail straight in the midle
<Xogium> and, call me crazy but… Knowing my orange pi nearly caught on fire hanging in the bootloader, I don't want to take any chance especially if you've left the place
<Xogium> that said… if you're lucky you can at least start the download
<Xogium> it finally decided to finish
<Speedsaver> Title: Nextcloud (at cloud.xogium.me)
<peterm6881> downloading
<peterm6881> its 1.3 GB!
<peterm6881> lol
<peterm6881> how do you force a steo in chrony?
<peterm6881> step
<peterm6881> makestep
<peterm6881> hm....on the image i just built, GPS0 and GPS1 both have a question mark against them, sigh..
<peterm6881> ok you should be able to connect to the CP210 on the server, ttyUSB0
<peterm6881> chrony gps time isnt working on the image I just built.
<peterm6881> i think maybe it cant handle 2 gps sources....
<peterm6881> let me check
<peterm6881> nope thats not it. I tried it with only the usb gps connected, and a good 3d fix, and its still got a question mark on GPS0 and GPS1
<peterm6881> no chance there's something missing from stuff you pushed?
<Xogium> hmm
<Xogium> weird
<Xogium> I just added chrony to the config, and the chrony.conf config…
<Xogium> hmm
<Xogium> did I not add gps option -n in gpsd ?
<Xogium> I'll just eat then I'll have a look
<peterm6881> before I go, can you get remote access to the one with the image you just shared
<Xogium> let me try
<peterm6881> ttyUSB0 on the server
<Xogium> hmm
<peterm6881> last time i looked it was trying to boot from a bunch of different places
<peterm6881> it wasnt pretty :)
<Xogium> its hanging, looks like
<peterm6881> are you able to try it on your OPi0?
<Xogium> might… Hmm
<Xogium> yeah I should be able to…
<Xogium> because its stuck and of course the opi has no reset button…
<peterm6881> go get your dinner, leave it for tonight
<Xogium> I'm already eating lol
<peterm6881> ill reboot it now
<peterm6881> wait
<Xogium> you could probably unplug and replug, so I at least can capture a log
<peterm6881> just did
<peterm6881> u getting stuff?
<Xogium> yea
<Xogium> ok so its stuck trying to boot over tftp basically forever
