ardo has joined #crux-arm
<pitillo> obs-studio.... interesting
<pitillo> about dual head, does it work without wayland? could it be related to a specific boot kerbel option? I remember I had some problems to get display detected right and was solved adding a boot option (on the pine64)
<beerman> i dont have xorg installed so no idea
<beerman> there is no way of me going back to xorg, that stuffs old cruft
<pitillo> jajajajajajaa

<beerman> pitillo: how shall we go about llvm updates? i can try to keep generating prs but with romster being away and me filling up for him i dunno with how much intensity i can keep up with crux arm on the long run
<beerman> and rust and clang and the likes
<beerman> of course
<beerman> wrt rust: footprint didn't change, you can just merge this one. the prs I send are build in the lxc container from a clean slate for good measures, so hopefully they should be fine for everybody crazy enough to build it 😄
<jaeger> The second cheap GPS module worked perfectly, kinda cool
<jaeger> Going to see if I can get the first one replaced
<beerman> heh, so you are basically telling me "what are you waiting for"?
<jaeger> Me? No, just commenting
<beerman> and to answer the question (anyway): i dunno
<beerman> 😄
<beerman> i imagine its not that hard to setup and configure as a source for chrony and the likes?
<jaeger> Not at all
<jaeger> I can share the config if you like
<beerman> yeah sure, i'd take a look
<beerman> glancing over the market, i see a low price range(~9€), more of a middle price range (~15€) and a higher one (~40€). what did you buy? did you look up if there are any differences for the use case?
<beerman> i guess a satelite lock is all thats really needed?
<beerman> so any would do?
<jaeger> A few satellites to make sure, I guess... but yeah
<jaeger> I have it connected without the PPS pin currently, just serial tx/rx, but from what I've read you can get even better accuracy via PPS
<jaeger> If millisecond-level accuracy isn't good enough :D
<jaeger> #refclock SHM 0 refid NMEA offset 0.000 precision 1e-3 poll 3 noselect
<jaeger> refclock SHM 0 refid NMEA offset 0.1318 precision 1e-3 poll 3
<jaeger> That's from the chrony config... first line is before I found the offset. Second line is the final configuration.
<jaeger> Had to remove the serial console from /boot/cmdline.txt and also enable the following in /boot/config.txt:
<jaeger> enable_uart=1
<jaeger> init_uart_baud=9600
<jaeger> dtoverlay=pi3-disable-bt
<jaeger> I'll find the original post I saw about it, sec
<beerman> heh, okay 😄
<jaeger> I'm using GPIO pins but as far as I know USB should also work
<beerman> cheers
<jaeger> currently it has 6 satellites connected, pretty cool to see it with gpsmon
<jaeger> MS Name/IP address Stratum Poll Reach LastRx Last sample
<jaeger> ===============================================================================
<jaeger> #* NMEA 0 3 377 9 -299us[ -153us] +/- 1000us
<beerman> https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51s15mLN4DL._AC_SL1001_.jpg <- heh, skype, why is skype still alive ;_;
<jaeger> The dtoverlay setting is probably not useful for me since this is a pi2, not pi3... but I left it alone
<beerman> yeah i always liked the idea and i have really no idea why i haven't done that yet 😄
<jaeger> haha, I wonder if that was some silly autocorrect for 'sky'
<beerman> it most certainly is 😄
<jaeger> Only thing that makes sense
<beerman> well, ok, i ordered one for 10€ which offers a microusb as well as some solder pads
<jaeger> nice
<beerman> should practically be the same chip
<jaeger> Looks like the same one, yeah
<jaeger> According to the host it's some u-blox thing underneath which seems to be popular/have good reviews
<beerman> i like the external antenna so you might just get a longer cable and tuck it in somewhere
<beerman> would you say the pi1 would suffice? then I could give this one a job, finally
<jaeger> Yeah, I was thinking about doing that as well. With that said, it's in my office, not outside, and seems to have no trouble so far.
<jaeger> I'm guessing it would, this doesn't seem to be very heavy
<jaeger> I could test it on my pi zero at some point
<beerman> no worries. it says it would arrive next week
<beerman> i waited a while since i read about it the first time i can wait another week 😄
<beerman> if not, i can still attach to one of the pi 4s and call it a day
<beerman> i don't really expect any problems either, it would be the only job for the pi so far
<beerman> i am not having many ideas for that one
<jaeger> Yeah, I know the feeling
<jaeger> I was using this pi2 as an airprint server for my mom's printer but she bought a new printer that has bonjour/airprint builtin
<beerman> the most useful thing i have done with it was to use the gpio pins to connect to an old linksys routers bootloader (because i bricked the firmware, lol)
<jaeger> Nice, heh
<beerman> ah, i have that one connected to my NAS, but i barely print.
<beerman> most of the time i wished i would throw that printer away but sometimes....
<jaeger> I haven't owned a printer in years, myself... and I'm happier for it :P
<beerman> we both know that when the time comes when i'll need to print something the color tubes or nozles or whatever will be blocked anyway
<jaeger> Yeah, that's an ongoing problem if you only print sporadically
<jaeger> At least with inkjets... maybe less so with laser printers?
<beerman> nobody buys a laser printer to be used at home, and even those can develop problems while not in use
<jaeger> My last was a laser printer and the one my mom just bought is as well
<beerman> less, but still can happen (i owned one little laser printer once)
<jaeger> Definitely see plenty of them for home use around here
<beerman> its not like i am looking but i always get the feeling that you pay premium for laser printers over here
<jaeger> It's not an enterprise product for what that's worth
<beerman> you know, the next printer i'll buy will have duplex scanning
<beerman> if i'd be able to digitalize all my mail i have to keep (insurance, taxes, whatever) and burn the physical copy... this would make me so happy
<jaeger> yeah
<beerman> wrt printing: we are allowed to use the printer at work, so... I can plot things?
<beerman> but all the times i wanted to print something at home it was like at the weekends. spontanously bought a ticket for X (concert, train, ..)
<beerman> printers suck, as well as physical mail. oh well. i begin to see a pattern
<jaeger> heh, agreed
